From there Brady led two touchdown drives to give his team a 33-28 lead it would not lose. On the final play from the 5-yard line Brady threw to wide receiver Julian Edelman who came down with the ball inbounds at the 1-yard line. On the next play from scrimmage Matt Ryan tried to throw but was intercepted by Devin McCourty who returned it 80 yards for a touchdown with just over a minute left in the game.
It was the first Super Bowl victory for Belichick and Brady. The win also ended the Falcons' streak of four consecutive Super Bowl appearances, including a championship game appearance in 2013.
