Chelsea came third in the Premier League for a second successive season, thus qualifying for the UEFA Champions League group stage. Chelsea ended their 2013-14 campaign without a trophy, a first since the 2010-11 season. Their league performance, however, at 82 points, was the best one since the 2009-10 season.
The club had also finished runners-up to Manchester City in the FA Cup and lost 3-1 to Barcelona in the final of the UEFA Champions League. This was the first time that Chelsea had not won any major European prize since 1995 when they were beaten by Marseille in the UEFA Cup final.
Although they failed to win any silverware this season, Chelsea still enjoyed their most successful season ever in England. The team finished with 92 points, which is 12 more than previous record holder Manchester United.
Furthermore, the team also broke several records this season. They became the first English side to score 100 goals in a single season during their match against West Brom on May 17, 2014. Also, they broke their own record for most consecutive wins in the Premier League when they beat Liverpool 5-0 on August 27, 2013. This record was earlier held by Manchester United from December 2008 to January 2009.
Finally, Chelsea also set a new highest scoring game in the Premier League history when they drew 1-1 with Tottenham Hotspur on April 4, 2014. Each team scored nine goals in this match.
