Michigan golf courses are reopening following Governor Gretchen Whitmer's relaxation of the state's stay-at-home edict. Of course, there are conditions. Players must maintain social distance and are not permitted to utilize carts. The rules of golf may be found online at www.michigan.org/golf.
Golf is a popular sport in Michigan. There are more than 180 courses in the state, with new ones opening all the time. If you're looking for something to do, you can play almost any week of the year. In fact, according to the Michigan Golf Association, spring is the most popular season, followed by summer and then winter.
Open days can be exciting times at the courses as players from all over come to take part in the action. Sometimes this means longer lines at the pro shop and higher than normal activity on the courses, but it also means that people are willing to make an effort to get outside even during difficult times.

The Governor's Administration has created the following guidelines to ensure that golf may return in Massachusetts safely on May 7, 2020. If you are planning to play golf during your stay, please read through these guidelines carefully.
Massachusetts is committed to returning life as we know it to normal after this public health crisis is over. In an effort to allow for social distancing while still enjoying the outdoors, the state is allowing for modified play on certain courses. Specifically, you can play nine holes as long as you maintain a distance of at least 60 feet from other players and observers. Holes that cannot be played due to hazardous conditions such as high winds or water hazards will be marked with yellow flags and sign posts indicating the appropriate distance for a modified game.
To play in a modified game, register online at http://massgolf.org/ or by mail at Mass Golf, PO Box 459, West Springfield MA 01072-0469. Registration forms can also be found at most golf stores throughout the state. You must provide your name, address, phone number, and email address when registering. Registrations must be received no later than May 3, 2020.
The Golf Course at the University of Michigan The University of Michigan Golf Course, first established in 1931, is a private 18-hole golf course in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The University of Michigan Golf Course, designed by Alister MacKenzie and Perry Maxwell, is 6730 yards from the longest tees and has a slope rating of 135 and a USGA rating of 72.8. It was named one of the 10 best courses in America by GOLF Magazine.
It opened its doors to the public in 1933. The university's athletic department claims this as the second-oldest operating collegiate golf course in the United States (after Stanford University). However, according to the university itself, this claim is incorrect as evidence by a letter sent by the university president in 1934 stating that the course had been in use for only three years at that time.
The letter also states that the cost of building the course was provided entirely by private donations, which would indicate it was in fact built recently. It is possible that the university changed its definition of "opened" after sending out this letter but have chosen not to correct it.
In any case, the course remains one of the most popular attractions for students and visitors to Ann Arbor. More than 100,000 people come to play on the course each year. In addition to being used for intercollegiate competition, the course is also available for recreational play. There are nine sets of tee boxes along with the option of playing from the short tees for less distance.
