Golf is the most popular sport in Utah, especially among men. Salt Lake City is known for having some of the best golf in the country, and several major tournaments have been held here over the years. These include the 2002 National Golf Association (NGA) Women's Open and the 2006 NGA Championship.
The United States Golf Association (USGA) operates 10 courses in Utah. They include Alta, Deer Valley, East Mountain, Forest Lakes, Green Mountain, Hillcrest, Mill Creek, Pinehurst, and Silver Lake. All but one of these courses are 18 holes and cost $49 to $99 for an individual game or $249 to $599 for a season pass. The exception is the USGA National Training Facility in Des Moines, which is a practice facility with a professional shop and restaurant.
Utah has a long history with golf. The first documented course in what is now Utah was built by Mormon settlers near Heber City in 1851.

The number of golf courses has increased in Grand Rapids in recent years. This is probably due to the fact that golf is becoming more popular among people who can afford it. Also, some of the older courses have been upgraded or replaced completely, which has made them more appealing to play. In fact, two of the city's courses were built back in 1948 and 1949, respectively.
Grand Rapids is home to several local clubs including the Grand Rapids Golf Association, Grandville Golf Club, and Walker Lake Country Club. These clubs offer opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to come together and have fun while playing golf.
In addition to these community-based clubs, Grand Rapids is also within driving distance of several other courses across the country.
Seven golf courses reside in and around the city of Des Moines, Iowa. Two of these courses are private, while the other five are public.
The two private courses include the Des Moines Golf & Country Club and The Drake Golf Course. These courses are expensive to play on; the cost is comparable to that of a non-public course. The average price of a round of golf is $140 ($70 for individuals, $140 for couples).
The five public courses include Capital City Golf Club, Forest Hills Golf Course, Indian Creek Golf Course, Riverside Golf Course, and Westdale Golf Course. Most of these courses are free to play on; the only charge is for a driver's license if you want to use one of them. The maximum rate per person is $20 per visit. You can play as many times as you like during your visit.
In addition to these seven courses, there are about a dozen more within an hour's drive of downtown Des Moines that are not listed here. Some of these additional courses are restricted to club members or hotel guests, others are not.

This is one of only five courses in Nevada rated 3 stars by Golf Digest. It was designed by Jack Nicklaus and Tom Fazio and opened in 1990. There is a fee for playing here, but it's usually covered by the casino that owns the course.
Another great public course is at Summerlin Resort. It was built around 1998 and is owned by Harrah's Entertainment. This is a truly unique experience because of the variety of landscapes you'll encounter while playing. You'll have trees, grass, sand, and even rocks in your shots!
