By November 1932, there were 1,200 students in eighteen classes. In 1933, the school changed its name to Western Flying School and moved to Hamilton Airfield near San Francisco. In 1939, Western received authorization to offer commercial pilot training and became known as West Coast Airways Training Center. In 1942, Western closed its flight training program after the entry of the United States into World War II.

The Rose Bowl is the most popular collegiate bowl game today, serving as the championship game between the Big Ten and Pac-12 conferences.
