All-Star Game of Major League Baseball Previous occasion: July 9, 2019 (Progressive Field, Cleveland) The next event will be held on July 13, 2021, at Coors Field in Denver, Colorado. Major League Baseball organizes the American League and the National League. The AL and NL champions meet in the All-Star Game to determine which league will go head to head with the other leagues’ champions in the World Series.
The last time these two teams met was at Progressive Field in Cleveland. The National League won that game 4-1. The most recent meeting between the AL and NL came last year in Houston. The AL beat the NL 3-0. Here are the results of all the previous games: AL 0, NL 0; AL 1, NL 1; AL 2, NL 0; AL 3, NL 0.
These teams have never played each other. Nor has any other team ever played both leagues simultaneously.
The current season is the AL’s seventh season since they broke away from the NL in 2001. Previously, the two leagues competed against each other annually until 1997 when the MLB decided to expand its schedule to include two regular seasons and a postseason. This means there will be no official offseason for baseball. A new season begins as soon as the conclusion of the previous one.
There are currently 30 teams in the major leagues.
The 2021 All-Star Game will be held tonight at Coors Field in Colorado, and the Mets will be represented by two All-Stars this year: Jacob deGrom and Taijuan Walker. DeGrom is the leader in wins this season with 22, while Walker is second with 19 victories.
DeGrom was selected as an All-Star for the fourth time in his career, while Walker made his first All-Star appearance. The Mets’ duo joins a group that includes Noah Syndergaard, Justin Turner, Marcus Stroman, and Pete Alonso. The National League squad will be led by Clayton Kershaw of the Dodgers and Stephen Strasburg of the Nationals.
Mets fans have probably already seen enough of Jacob deGrom during his four seasons with the team, but he still has plenty left to give back to the community. With the All-Star Game coming to town this summer, here are some events/appearances that deGrom can join during his stay in Colorado.
