This was also the first Super Bowl played in Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota. The game was played at Metropolitan Stadium in Bloomington, Minnesota because Miami's Orange Bowl had been designated as the site of the championship game. The Chiefs were represented by owner and player-coach Buddy Parker and his last season as a player before becoming a coach.
The Vikings were undefeated during the regular season before losing to the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship Game. Quarterback Fran Tarkenton had one of the best seasons ever by a quarterback finishing with 3,426 yards passing with 28 touchdowns against only 7 interceptions. His top target was Calvin Johnson who had nine 100-yard games during the season including two 200-yard performances. Center John Hansen was the only Viking to play in all 16 games this year starting every game at center for the 10-4-1 team that made it to the Super Bowl.

It is located on the campus of the University of Maryland in Baltimore. The current capacity of the stadium is 72,000. It was built for $250 million and opened in 2008. The Ravens have won two Super Bowl titles, in 2000 and 2013. They are the only team to have achieved this feat.
Before the Ravens started play in 1996, no Baltimore athlete had ever played in or won a Super Bowl.

The Denver Broncos defeated the Atlanta Falcons 24-14 to win their first Super Bowl title. In doing so, they ended Carolina's two-year run of being champion of the National Football League (NFL). In 1998, the Broncos made their first appearance in the Super Bowl after winning the AFC West division by one game over the Oakland Raiders. They went on to beat the NFC East champion Philadelphia Eagles 20-17 in overtime at Georgia Dome in Atlanta. This was also their first Super Bowl trip as a wild card team. Before this season, no wild card team had ever won the Super Bowl.
Quarterback John Elway had been the catalyst for most of the success for the Broncos during this period, but he decided to call it a career after winning his third Super Bowl title in Denver. He finished his illustrious NFL career with 303 victories, which is second only to Tom Brady among all-time winners.

The Indianapolis Colts have never won the Super Bowl but they are a game away from doing so. If they defeat the Dallas Cowboys in the NFL Championship Game on Sunday, January 20th, then they will go to Miami for the Super Bowl. The game will be played at Sun Life Stadium on February 3rd.
The Colts have had plenty of success over the years and have made it to the NFL Championship Game five times since their inception in 1958. They have lost each time they have gone up against the Chicago Bears - most recently last year when they fell 45-7 at home. However, this year's team is different because they have more talent than any other Colts team that has ever played in the postseason. They also have a chance to make history by becoming the first wild card team to win the Super Bowl.
The Colts were one of eight original teams left in the league after the AFL and NFL merged in 1970. They have been able to build themselves into a competitive franchise over the years through the draft and free agency.
