Harrington grew up in Orange, New Jersey, and began playing basketball when he was in seventh grade. He attended St. Patrick's High School in Elizabeth, where he played under head coach Tom Penders. As a senior in 1999-2000, he averaged 25 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks per game.
He went on to play four seasons for Providence College, where as a freshman he earned All-America honors. Walter Tavares is a basketball player who was born on March 22, 1992. He plays center for the Brooklyn Nets of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Tavares entered the national spotlight at a very young age when it was discovered that he was being recruited by some of the best colleges in the United States. However, due to the fact that he was born in Cape Verde, a small island off the coast of West Africa, he was given the opportunity to play overseas in Spain and France before finally signing with an American team in 2016.
Tavares played only one season of college basketball before entering the 2016 NBA draft where he was selected by the Brooklyn Nets with the 28th overall pick. He immediately became one of the top centers in the G-League while also helping out his new team by playing important minutes during their playoff run. As a rookie, Tavares averaged 4.8 points and 3.4 rebounds per game.
He has said that his goal is to one day become an All-Star player.
