License fees are not tax deductible.
If you plan to fish in more than one state, you should obtain separate licenses for each state in which you intend to fish. Some states require a special “access” or “transport” license that can add to the cost of fishing there.
Fishing is permitted year round but some states limit opening and closing dates for specific species. Check with your local department of natural resources for seasonal restrictions.
In most cases, you must be 16 years old to obtain a fishing license. However, if you are 15 years old at the end of the licensing period, you can apply for a resident fishing license. The non-resident license fee is reduced to $40.50 if you are under 18.
You can only use licensed bait. This is usually minnows, worms, or other aquatic organisms that are eaten as food by the fish. Bait is legal during open seasons and illegal during closed seasons.
