The Wisconsin Badgers play their home games at the Ridder Arena in downtown Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The arena is known for its unique design featuring a curved roof that resembles that of a hockey puck. The Badgers are members of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC).
The team’s inaugural season was 1991-92. Head coach Joe Coombs led the Badgers to a 29-5-1 record and their first NCAA tournament appearance. They lost in the first round to Boston College 3-2 after blowing a two-goal lead in the third period. The following season, Coombs was replaced by Dan Hawkins who helped the Badgers win the national championship in 1995. He has since been succeeded by Tony Granato who was fired after the 2004-05 season. Mike Eaves was named as his replacement but he left Wisconsin after one season to take over at Northern Michigan. Mark Johnson was hired as his successor but he was fired after only coaching one game due to health issues. Paul Chryst was hired as his replacement in June 2006.
