Why do Nascar players scrape and torch tires?

Racing tires are intended to be used for a limited time. After removing the tire from the vehicle, the tire expert uses a torch to heat up the built-up rubber on the tire, allowing him to remove it and expose three small holes on the tire known as wear pins. This process is called "scraping" the tire.

The term "tire yard" describes a facility where racing tires are kept in stock so that they can be delivered quickly to race teams when needed. The gum helps the tire maintain its shape at high speeds and prevents the stones from breaking off under pressure. These are used on tracks where low speed turns are required; stopping short is not an issue because you can always accelerate again.

Why do race cars change tires?

The majority of tire failures in NASCAR are caused by track debris or sidewall cuts caused by collision between two race cars. Race drivers change tires in three main stages: during practice sessions, when the track is not wet; during dry races; and, when the rain starts to fall. During practice, drivers learn the characteristics of each tire and get used to changing them under race conditions. They might also check out other team's pit stops to see what kind of times they achieve. This helps them plan their own pit stops for later in the race.

Dry races are those that take place in clear weather with no rain expected. Drivers need several different types of tires throughout the course of the race to be able to respond to changes in track condition and avoid damaging their car.

How hot do F1 tires get?

A racing tire operates best at temperatures ranging from 100°C to 110°C. During racing, the tire temperature is continually monitored and sent to the driver. Tire warmers are used to enhance the temperature of the tires as the F1 vehicle prepares for the race. They work by pumping heat-exchanging fluid through tubes attached to each wheel bearing. This method can raise the temperature of the tires by 5-10 degrees Celsius.

The FIA regulates the maximum permitted tire temperature during a race. In the United States and Canada, this limit is 120°C for cars competing in the Sprint Cup series. In Europe, it is 130°C for cars participating in Formula One.

Tires used by F1 drivers must be capable of withstanding these high temperatures for several laps of the race while still providing effective traction. Modern tires are designed to break down and wear out over the course of a race, so they need to be replaced after a few laps. But because they are not intended for repeated use at such high temperatures, they must be fitted with good quality rubber which will not degrade at such low temperatures.

F1 cars are also required to carry fire extinguishers to put out any fires that may start within the tires. Although this has never happened, it is possible for explosions to occur when air inside a tire is compressed at high speeds.
