Edge and Orton faced off in a one-on-one bout on the April 30 episode of Raw. Edge won the bout after pinning Orton with a spear. This match created a new record for the most consecutive falls in a WWE Championship match: 13.
This match lasted more than 10 minutes, which is a lot of time for two wrestlers to be on their feet. It also changed Edge's record from being tied with John Cena for most WWE Title matches (10) to being the leader with 11 matches. The record has since been broken by Cena (12).
After winning this match, Edge went on to defeat John Cena to become the new champion. This match was very important for both men because it meant that they had reached the pinnacle of their careers so far. It also proved that despite having different styles, these two guys can compete head-to-head and have a highly entertaining match.
This match received positive reviews from fans and critics alike. Many considered it one of the best championship matches of all time.
Edge won the bout when Orton failed to respond to the referee's 10-count. Edge and Randy Orton made their first post-WrestleMania debuts on the May 11 edition of Raw, the night after Money in the Bank was hosted at the WWE Global Headquarters in Stamford, Connecticut. The two rivals faced off in a non-title match that also included Matt Hardy and Cody Rhodes. After several minutes of fighting, both men were disqualified as they went into the audience during the match. Later that night on Raw, Vince McMahon announced that due breaking news, Raw would be going behind closed doors for one hour, meaning that episode one of Raw Rebound would serve as the show's finale.
In other news, Chris Jericho recently spoke with The Guardian about his future in wrestling and he said that he is not done yet. He also mentioned that he wants to take on John Cena at WrestleMania 29 if he is able to find a way around his injuries.
Jericho suffered two torn ligaments in his left knee during a match against Jeff Hardy at Bound for Glory on October 27, 2010. He had surgery to repair the injuries three days later. The injury forced him to retire from in-ring work for six months until he returned at Survivor Series where he teamed up with Batista to defeat John Cena & Daniel Bryan.
There's no word on whether the Orton vs. Edge feud would continue after last night's RAW main event, although both superstars made promos during the program indicating that this would be the final bout. Edge mentioned beating Orton in order to obtain closure. Before the match began, Triple H appeared on-screen and stated that because he is the authority figure in this situation, it is his decision as to who will be next year's champion. He then declared Edge the new champion.
This marks only the second time that Triple H has become the booker of a major championship at some point during their current run. The first time was when he decided Daniel Bryan should win the World Heavyweight Championship at the 2014 Royal Rumble.
Bryan ended up losing the title to Roman Reigns a month later at the WrestleMania 30. This leads many fans to believe that Triple H will do the same thing again and replace Edge with someone else before their current deal expires in 2019.
Of course, nothing can be confirmed until either one of them says something about it. But with WWE focusing more on its history than ever before, there's a good chance we'll see another world champion by the end of 2018.
Even though Orton won, the real winner was Edge, who put on a faultless performance in his first legitimate wrestling battle in nine years. The two fought for an hour and the contest never seemed stale. They traded blows throughout the entire match with neither one gaining an advantage over the other. In the end, it was Edge's precision and technique that won him this fight.
Edge is one of the greatest wrestlers of all time and it's easy to see why he has been referred to as "The Master of Disaster". He has won every major award available in wrestling including the WWE Championship three times. If you ask me, he is still not enough, but then again, nobody is ever enough when it comes to Edge.
Orton on the other hand, is a big guy who uses his size to his advantage. He loves throwing people out of rings (especially chairs), and will always try to go for a RKO (or should I say Rock 'n' Rollo?) whenever possible. He has won four championships during his time in WWE (WWE Championship, World Heavyweight Championship, DX Championship, and COOST Championship) and is considered by many to be one of the best wrestlers of all time.
16. Randy Orton and Edge Orton and Edge are real-life buddies who met while working together in the Rated RKO tag team. Edge allegedly wanted to work his first singles bout out of retirement with Orton because of their chemistry and the safety factors that come with knowing each other well. However, this idea was dropped by WWE when they decided to have both men face off at WrestleMania XXIV.
15. They're both tall stars in WWE who have a history of putting themselves through dangerous moves on each other.
14. They have a similar style of wrestling too - aggressive and physical.
13. Both Randy and Edge were members of the legendary D-Generation (DD) group in World Wrestling Federation (WWF). The group was active from 1993 to 1995. During its time, it was known for its high-risk, highly publicized stunts which included attacking referees and security guards, as well as breaking into buildings through windows or doors to attack opponents or perform stunts themselves.
12. The DD group's antics made them popular among fans and helped WWF win over more viewers during this time.
11. After leaving WWF, Randy went on to join WCW where he became one of their main eventers for several years.
The Edge's participation on SmackDown is noteworthy since it was announced before to RAW, through F4Wonline.com, that The Rated R Superstar will face WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 37. Edge made his RAW ring comeback last night, defeating Randy Orton in the main event when Alexa Bliss distracted him. This marks the first time that The Ultimate Opportunist has competed on a WWE show since January 2015 when he lost to Brock Lesnar at the Royal Rumble.
It appeared that The Blueprint Killer was done after being struck by a car during a confrontation with Chris Jericho earlier this month but he later returned at No Mercy attacking both Jericho and John Cena before being taken out by Stephanie McMahon. This led to speculation that The Blueprint Killer might be asked to join Team Raw at Survivor Series but that didn't happen. It's possible that Vince McMahon is saving him for another match at some point in the future.
Brock Lesnar returned from injury last week on RAW where he defeated Paul Heyman by submission. After the match, The Beast Incarnate demanded a shot at WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 37 but Triple H refused due to Brock not having fought anyone of significance since returning. On the following episode of SmackDown, Brock faced off against Seth Rollins resulting in a no contest after The Beast Man attacked both men with a hammerlock DDT. This led to speculation that perhaps Triple H might change his mind and allow Lesnar to fight Reigns at Mania.
