Ernst Willimowski of Poland was the first player to score four goals in a single match and still end up on the losing side against Brazil in 1938. Brazil's Leonidas also scored three goals in the game, which his side won 6-5. Austria beat Switzerland 7-5 in the highest-scoring game in World Cup history in 1954. The first player to score four goals in a World Cup match was Ferenc Puskás who accomplished this feat in 1958.
Willimowski had already scored three goals when he reached the fourth goal in the eighth minute. The match ended in a 6-5 defeat for Poland. He scored another three goals in the last round of group stage matches without conceding any goal. Poland finished first in its group with 11 points.
Brazil and Austria had been drawn in the same group again. This time it was Brazil that came out on top with six points from two games while Austria had four points from two games. Germany and Hungary were also in the same group together with Poland and Brazil. Germany was declared winner after finishing first in its group with nine points. Poland was second with eight points while Hungary was third with seven points.
In 1978, Argentina's Juan Manuel Fangio became the first driver to win five races in a single season when he finished first in the championship standings. The most recent player to do so is Lewis Hamilton who won five races in 2014.

Three different players have scored in four consecutive finals events. Pele of Brazil and Uwe Seeler of West Germany each scored in the 1958, 1962, 1966, and 1970 finals, respectively, and German Miroslav Klose scored in 2002, 2006, 2010, and 2014.

Late in the 1974 World Cup finals, he scored seven goals, but just three more in the next two tournaments. Rahn averaged a goal per game at the World Cup, scoring 10 times in ten games. Ali Daei of Iran is the first male player in international football history to have scored more than 100 goals, with 109 in his career. For 47 years after his 84th goal against Austria in 1956, the second player to score 50 goals in international football held the record for the most international goals with 84. In 2007, Lukas Podolski broke this record with his 89th goal, becoming the first player to score 90 or more goals in international play. Since then, another German player, Miroslav Klose, has repeated this achievement three times. With 132 goals, Cristiano Ronaldo is currently the highest scorer in international football history and is expected to break this record in 2018 when he will be 42 years old.
There are two types of scoring records: one that is official and recognized by FIFA (such as Ali Daei's 100th goal) and an unofficial record that only exists within a team or player's own mind (such as Ronaldo's expected future record). Official records can be broken in several ways: by players who remain active within football's rules (FIFA rules state that a player must be at least 18 years old to be eligible to score goals) others may score using methods such as computer-aided systems or by being sent off during full time.
Robert Prosinecki (who was awarded the 1990 FIFA World Cup Best Young Player Award for his performance for Yugoslavia) also scored two goals in matches against Jamaica and the Netherlands, making him the only player in World Cup history to score goals in final tournaments for two different countries.
On June 14, 1925, he earned his 36th cap against Sweden in the 1924-28 Nordic Football Championship. This is also the fewest amount of games in which any player has scored 50 goals. In his international career, he scored 52 goals in 38 games. He ended his career with Chinese Soccer League side Beijing FC.
Higgins started his professional career with Manchester City in the English First Division. He stayed with the club for five seasons, scoring 120 goals in 265 appearances. In 1930, he moved to North American soccer team Boston Bruins where he played three seasons. In 1933, he returned to England and joined Leeds United where he remained for three seasons. He finished his career with South Wales Rangers in 1936.
During his time at City, Higgins became one of the most prolific scorers in the club's history. He scored 100 goals in just 135 matches and remains as the joint third highest goal scorer behind David Beckham and Alan Shearer. At Boston, he helped the team reach the American Cup final in 1932 but lost 2-1 to Uruguay's Nacional. In 1933, he scored 26 goals in 28 games before leaving the club. With Leeds, he won the Yorkshire County League in 1934. In 1935, he moved back to Ireland and joined Dundalk who were playing in the Irish League at the time. He stayed with them for one season before ending his career.
Miroslav Klose of the German national football (soccer) team is the World Cup's all-time leading scorer as of 2018. Across four World Cup competitions, he scored 16 goals. He is the most successful player in World Cup history.
Klose was born on March 21st, 1979 in Grödig, then part of East Germany. He began his career with local club FC Energie Cottbus before moving to Bayer Leverkusen for a transfer fee of $850,000. He debuted for Germany on July 9th, 2001 against Israel and has been a regular starter since then. He has won 80 caps and is currently the country's second most-capped player behind Lothar Matthäus.
Klose has also been nominated for the Ballon d'Or award twice but has never won it. He remains the top scorer at the World Cup with five goals, one more than Brazil's Ronaldo.
The other four players who have scored multiple goals in the World Cup are Bertie Vogts (England), Petri Pasanen (Finland), Miroslav Raduljica (Yugoslavia), and Hristo Stoichkov (Bulgaria).
