Ronaldo is the most recent winner of the Ballon d'Or in the Premier League. In 196 league games, he scored 84 goals and had 34 assists. He helped Manchester United to four straight Premier League titles from 2007 to 2010. After leaving Man United by mutual consent in 2013, Ronaldo signed for Real Madrid that same year.
He is also one of only three players to have won the European Footballer of the Year award while playing for a British team (the others being George Best and Paul Gascoigne). The other two winners were Ronnie O'Sullivan when he was managing it all alone back in 2001 and Chris Waddle in 1995.
There have been more than 100 players who have played in the Premier League, so it's not surprising that some have gone on to win international awards. Here are the other men who have won the Ballon d'Or: Michel Platini, Franz Beckenbauer, Alfredo Di Stéfano, Johan Cruyff, Marco van Basten, Ronald Koeman, Ruud Gullit, Eric Cantona, David Beckham, Cristiano Ronaldo.
Cristiano Ronaldo has the most goals scored in the UEFA Champions League, with 135 in total. Lionel Messi comes in second with 120 goals. They are both record breakers - the previous highest score was 116 between Uefa members Real Madrid and Juventus back in 2003-04. Bayern Munich's Karl-Heinz Rummenigge is the most-capped player with 152 appearances.
The competition has been played annually since 1992-93, except for 2002-03 and 2011-12 when it was cancelled due to security concerns following the September 11 attacks and the Libyan civil war respectively.
Since its inception, European champions have been awarded the Golden Boot award which is given to the top scorer in the tournament. The inaugural winner was Marco van Basten of Netherlands who scored 15 goals during 1989-90 season. It is believed that he did not even know he won the award until later. Currently, Barcelona's Lionel Messi is the current holder of the trophy after scoring 31 goals this season. He will be hoping to add to his tally when his team faces Manchester City in the final on June 1 at the Berlin Brandenburg Airport Arena.
Before the creation of the Champions League, the most prestigious club competition in Europe was called the European Cup.
He became the first player to win the Ballon d'Or three times in 1974. — Cruyff scored 392 club goals throughout his career. — Cruyff joined Barcelona in 1973 for a then-world record PS922,000 fee, reuniting with his former Ajax manager, Rinus Michels. He returned home with the Golden Boot as his trophy collection after scoring twice in the final against German side Schalke 04.
Johan Cruyff died on March 4, 2016 at the age of 64 after suffering from cancer. He won the Ballon d'Or thrice during his career - in 1974, 1978 and 1983. He is still considered by many to be the best player in the world during his era.
Cruyff influenced the game immensely by introducing new ideas such as the 3-4-3 formation, which enabled him to lead the club to multiple titles during his tenure. He left Barcelona in 1986 and took over as coach of the Netherlands national team where he led them to third place at the 1994 World Cup. He retired in 1990 but came out of retirement in 1996 when he signed with newly promoted Barcelona B. He finished his career with two seasons at Ajax before retiring for good in 1998 at the age of 39.

The FEFJ members were asked to select one player from each national team. Germany's Mario Götze was chosen as the best young player while Italy's Gianluigi Buffon won the award over the younger Ronaldo and Messi.
