Since 1969, just one original American Football League club had won the Super Bowl—the Raiders in 1976 and again in 1980. Only one club has ever won the Super Bowl under more than one head coach, the Raiders in 1976 and 1980 under John Madden and Tom Flores, respectively.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are the most recent National Football League (NFL) franchise to win the Super Bowl, defeating the Seattle Seahawks 24-10 on February 5, 2018 at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Seahawks became the first team from a non-playoff season to win the title.
Minneapolis/St. Paul is an amazing city with great food and sports fans! I hope you have a chance to visit.
The Oakland Raiders were founded in 1960 as an expansion team in the American Football League (AFL). They moved to Los Angeles in 1982 and were renamed the Raiders in 1992. The team went 0-16 in their first season in L.A., but managed to win their next three titles by narrow margins: 34-28 over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 1996, 23-17 over the Green Bay Packers in 2001, and 32-29 over the New England Patriots in 2002.
John Madden was the quarterback for the University of Michigan Wolverines football team from 1947 to 1949.
Four current NFL teams, including franchises that have relocated or been renamed, have never appeared in a Super Bowl: the Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Houston Texans, despite the fact that both the Browns (1950, 1954, 1955, 1964) and Lions (1935, 1952, 1953, 1957) had won NFL Championship Games prior to...
Following an 8-8 season, four teams (the 1999 Titans, 2000 Ravens, 2007 Giants, and 2008 Cardinals) have reached the Super Bowl, with two of those teams, the Ravens and Giants, winning the game. The 1999 Titans and 2000 Ravens lost.
The Chicago Bears have won three championships, in 1976, 1977, and 2018. They are the only team to win the championship after finishing with an 8-8 record.
The San Francisco 49ers have appeared in the Super Bowl nine times, most recently after the 2011 season when they defeated the New York Giants 34-31 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The 49ers' last loss came to the Bears in the NFC Championship Game during the 1976 season.
Joe Montana has won two Super Bowls with the 49ers, including the 1990 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons that was decided by one touchdown pass. He is the winningest quarterback in NFL history.
He and Mike Ditka are the only persons in NFL history to have won a Super Bowl as a player, assistant coach, and head coach (Super Bowl IV as a player for the Chiefs, Super Bowl XI as an assistant coach of the Raiders, and Super Bowl XV and Super Bowl XVIII as head coaches of the Raiders). The last player to win all five rings in football is Babe Ruth.
He played 10 seasons in the NFL from 1960-1959 with the Pittsburgh Steelers and San Francisco 49ers. He died at age 54 in March 2008 after suffering from multiple myeloma for several years.
Curly Lambeau founded the Green Bay Packers in 1919. He also had a major role in bringing baseball to Wisconsin. Before he created the Packers, he was the manager of a variety store in Green Bay.
The store failed, but not before it earned him enough money to take a chance on a new team. Without any other options, he decided to start his own franchise. Within a few months, he had hired someone to build him a new stadium. Today, that stadium is known as Lambeau Field.
Lambeau managed the Packers for six years before he moved on to other projects. However, he left behind a legacy that continues to this day. The Packers have never had another owner like Curly Lambeau and they never will.
