When Linfield forward John Peden crossed the Irish Sea to Manchester, the club was known as Newton Heath. Peden was an outside left who only stayed with the Heathens for one season before joining Sheffield United. He made 39 appearances for his new club before moving back across the Atlantic where he ended up in Ireland.
Peden first came to attention while playing for Northern Ireland at the 1958 World Cup when he scored twice against France during a 2-2 draw. He went on to play eight more times for his country before retiring in 1962. After his retirement from football, Peden worked as a coal miner in South Wales until he died of lung disease on August 10, 1993. He was 58 years old.
Newton Heath's trainer Sam Hardy said of Peden: "He's a good player - quick and tricky. We're lucky to have him." Upon hearing that he had been offered a contract by Ole Gunnar Solskjær, Peden's son asked if he could also join him at Manchester United.
Linfield manager Jim McConkey said of Peden: "He's a great player and a nice guy too. I'm sure he'll do well at Man United."

The Greens and Reds were successful. Irish footballers have played in almost every memorable event in Liverpool FC's history. Elisha Scott, a Belfast native who played for Liverpool for more than 20 years and made 468 appearances, was instrumental in the team winning some of its early league titles. He passed away in 1953 at the age of 39. Patrick O'Connell, who along with Scott formed the nucleus of the back line that kept Liverpool's defense strong throughout most of the 1950s, died in 1958 at the young age of 36.
Other notable Irish players include Joe McBride, Johnny Dixon, Peter Dobson, Ray Houghton, Dixie Dean, Harry Gregg, Billy Lister, Eric Harrison, and Colin Harvey.
Liverpool debuted in Ireland in 1892 when it took on Cork Athletic in a friendly match at Adelphi Park, which ended in a 2-2 draw. The club went on to win all but one of its remaining games that season, finishing as champions of England with 33 points from 16 matches. In 1893, it entered the inaugural edition of what is now known as the Football League, then called the First Division. The club remained in the top flight until 1905 when it was relegated following a series of bad seasons. It returned to the top division after two years out by winning the Second Division in 1907. The 1908 season saw Liverpool win its first championship title after beating Blackpool 5-1 in the final game of the season.
In 52 appearances for Manchester United, Owen scored 17 goals. Owen also won a Premier League medal with Manchester United, yet Liverpool supporters still despise him. He is possibly the most despised player to have ever played for Liverpool or Manchester United. Paul Ince also played for both of these illustrious clubs.
Back in 1912, Tom Chorlton's transfer from Liverpool to Manchester United was the first straight transfer between the two clubs. Chorlton, who was born in Stockport, was a classic English defender. Chortlon has previously represented a number of clubs before joining Liverpool.
The England defender is a part of a select group of players who have gone from one Manchester rival to the other. McManus was born a Manchester United fan, but he spent nine years at City in two periods. After United's promotion to the WSL in 2019, she switched from the blue to the red side of Manchester.

He was a member of the Ridgeway Rovers, a local youth team coached by his father, Stuart Underwood, and Steve Kirby. Beckham was a Manchester United mascot for a 1986 match against West Ham United. He went on to play for the club as a midfielder or forward.
Stuart Beckham had another son, Paul, who played football for several years before becoming a carpenter. He has two other children, John and Cheryl, both of whom are musicians. John plays guitar in his brother's band, while Cheryl is known for her work with Simple Plan.
They all attended St. Mary's Catholic School in South Yorkshire.
After leaving school, Stuart worked as a mechanic for British Leyland before becoming an office manager. In 1980, he moved to Scotland to take charge of marketing at Heart of Midlothian F.C.. Three years later, he returned to England and took over as general manager at Manchester United. He stayed there for seven years before moving back to Scotland where he took charge of marketing at Dundee United F.C..
Stuart died of cancer in 1998 at the age of 50. No one knows how much money he made at Man U or Hoops but it's safe to say it wasn't enough to pay the bills for his three children.
Manchester United established themselves as dominators of England and Europe thanks to their manager, Matt Busby, and the term reached a higher level when it was featured on the club's emblem in 1970. The word "manchester" is derived from the Middle English name "Mansuetus", which in turn comes from the Latin word "mansus", meaning "portion". This refers to the traditional division of Manchester into four wards each representing a portion or district of the city.
United's first match using the "Man U" logo was a 3-1 victory over Newton Heath (now known as Manchester City) in the First Division on 5 May 1926. The club's owner at the time, James 'Jimmie' Edwards, chose the letter M and the number 18 to represent the city and the date of its opening.
Edwards had been inspired to create a new team after seeing how successful Preston North End were playing in the English Premier League. He decided to set up his own version called "Manchester United" because there already was an existing professional soccer team in the city named "Manchester City". So, Jimmie Edwards created the world's first superclub.
