Denis Amiss achieved the first One-Day International (ODI) century in 1972, amassing 103 runs against Australia at Old Trafford. (This is the second official ODI on record.) He was joined by his brother Paul who made another 100 run partnership before being dismissed by Craig McDermott.
This remains the highest individual score by a player for England or Australia in an ODI match to date.
The first Test century was scored by Donald Bradman in 1930-31 and he went on to score 999 runs in 15 innings. However, this achievement has no relevance in ODI cricket as it was before the inception of 50-over matches.
Bradman's average in Test cricket is still considered world-class today. He is the greatest batsman of all time and has been ranked number one by various critics.
India's Sachin Tendulkar is the most successful ODI player with 250 scores to his name. He remains the only player to have scored centuries in both India and England in ODIs. He completed his career test match hundred on August 16, 2011. But despite losing his last match, he won the title of "World's No. 1 Test Batting Legend" due to his higher rating obtained from statistics.

See List of hundreds in women's Twenty20 international cricket for further information. A Twenty20 International (T20I) is an international cricket match between two teams, both of which have T20I status as defined by the International Cricket Council, the sport's governing body.
Eight individual batsmen or women from five of the twelve test-playing nations have achieved a double century (200 runs or more) in One-Day Internationals (ODIs). Belinda Clark became the first player in ODI history to make a double century, doing so against Denmark in a women's world cup match in 1997. She scored 303 not out.
Two years later, Clark went beyond 300 runs and thus holds the record for the highest individual score in an ODI match. She reached this mark during the 1998 World Cup, when Australia played England at Melbourne. The match ended in a draw with both sides having scored 350 runs each.
A double hundred is considered a rare achievement in international cricket. So far, only five other players have managed it twice: Belinda Clark, Anjana Ogle, Kiran More, Sanjay Bangar and Ajinkya Rahane. Two of these players, Clark and Ogle, did so before 2000. The remaining three players scored their second double hundred last year alone!
India's captain Mithali Raj is the leading run scorer in ODIs with 6456 runs while South Africa's AB de Villiers is top with averages over 50. Both players have four centuries and a joint fifth place goes to India's Veda Krishnamurthy who has three centuries.
The first woman cricketer was Lizzie Batchelor who played two matches for London Notts in 1877.
Here is a list of the top ten batsmen in one-day cricket. India's Rohit Sharma tops the record with 264 runs in a one-day international. One Day International (ODI) cricket is a variant of the game in which the play-off is limited to 50 overs. A century (100 runs) is considered rare but not impossible. No player has ever scored 100 centuries in ODI cricket.
Sharma has already scored three centuries this year, including two in his last match - against New Zealand on February 23. He remains on course to break Australia's Bradman record of 48 five-wicket hauls. The record is held by Charles Bannerman who made 51 five-wicket hauls during the 1928-29 season.
India's Virat Kohli is second with 259 runs from seven matches. South Africa's AB de Villiers is third with 257 runs from eight matches. De Villiers recently announced that he will be retiring at the end of the 2017 World Cup and will continue as an active player only if his country calls him back for more matches. He has scored four hundreds so far this year, including three in a row starting from January's series against England.
The other players on the list have all been involved in high-profile one-day matches this year. David Warner was dropped after scoring a rapid hundred for Australia against India in December 2016.
One-Day Internationals, or ODIs, are a fast-paced format that began in 1971 but gained prominence in the 1980s. These are one-innings contests with 50 overs each side, and teams with a combination of technique, speed, and talent are anticipated to do well. The most successful team is Australia, who has won the title 11 times.
First-class cricket was established in England in 1877 and worldwide in 1992. The earliest recorded games involved amateur players from the United Kingdom playing other amateurs from around the world. In 1877, some English professionals joined the game, leading to the creation of the Marylebone Cricket Club, or MCC. They set standards for play and administration that still apply today. The early years saw many different rules that changed as the sport evolved. In 1907, the official name "Test cricket" was adopted by the MCC.
The main aim of Test cricket is to determine which team will win the match. This can only be done by winning or losing the match and there can be no drawn games. A test match will usually last five days or more, and up to four hours have been known to happen in an hour's cricket!
Cricket is widely believed to have originated in England, but this is not true. As far back as 772 AD, Chinese writers described a game called chuang qi that was probably a form of bat and ball cricket.
Sachin Tendulkar was the first batter in history to register a double century (200 runs) in a single one-day international match, and he remains the only player to have scored a century in international cricket. He has been named man of the match against all of the ICC Full Members (Test playing nations).
Tendulkar's achievement came in Chennai on January 16, 1999. He brought up his double hundred in style with an elegant shot off Waqar Younis into the leg side. He ended up scoring 206 for India from 50 balls with 12 fours and two sixes. The record is still intact even after 13 years.
India won the match by eight wickets. It was also Sachin's debut series as a captain. He led the team successfully in both the matches - a losing cause against South Africa earlier that year and this victory over England. He remained at number three under Rahul Dravid during this period.
After this historic feat, Tendulkar went on to score another century (100 runs) in the next match played between these two countries. This makes him the only person to have scored centuries in both the matches played between India and England in one season (1999).
The next one-day international match played between these two countries was held in Bangalore four months later on March 4, 1999.
