Ted Williams played in only 142 games over eight seasons (1947-1954), but he still hit 57 home runs. That average of about 1 per game makes him the most prolific home run hitter in baseball history.
Williams' teammate Bobby Doerr was the first player up on opening day of 1947, and he still holds the record for highest batting average among players who have appeared in at least that many games. His lifetime mark of.462 remains unbroken to this day.
