Calcutta Cricket and Football Club, formed in 1792, is the world's oldest existing sporting club. The Calcutta Cricket Club Clippers were the team's initial name. They later changed their name to Calcutta Football Club after adopting football as their main sport. In 1877, they became the first Indian team to be invited to play in England when they went on tour against various local teams. After winning several matches, the Indians returned home with a £10,000 (around $150,000 today) prize for being the best team in Britain.
Calcutta has been represented on the international stage by both men's and women's sides. The men's team played in the first official international match against England in 1875. This was followed by other matches against other British teams. The women's team made their debut in 1979 and have since then competed in all World Cups including two finals (in 1991 and 2015). They have also won three Asian Games medals (one gold, two silver).
India's first international victory came at the Asia Cup in 1935 when they defeated Japan 4-1. India has never lost an international match.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) was launched in 2008 by Rajiv Shrivatsa, who owned the Mumbai Indians cricket team.

South China AA was the first club created by natives (1904). They also were the first club to win the Hong Kong FA Cup, which they did in 1905.
In Africa, Egypt's Alexandria FC is the oldest club still active in the league system. It was founded in 1897. However, none of these clubs can claim to be the first football club in Africa because there are reports that show football being played in Algeria as early as 1872.
In Tunisia, Stade Tunisien claims to be the oldest club still active today. It was founded in 1919 by Italian settlers in Tunisia. Previously, it was called "Stade Tunisien" (Tunisian Stadium). After World War II, when French colonists took over Tunisia, they renamed the stadium "Stade Français". In 1959, after the independence of Tunisia, the name was again changed to "Stade Tunisien".
Stade Tunisien has always been a major team in Tunisian football. It has never been relegated from the top division even though it has had many name changes (Italian, French, and now English).
By 1886, London had established the first "true" hockey association. The Blackheath & Old Elthamians Hockey Club, founded in 1861, is said to be the world's oldest club. There are several other early clubs from Canada and England.
Hockey became popular in Canada and especially in Ontario where it was played by Canadian soldiers during and after the Second World War. In 1946, the first official game was played between Toronto and Montreal teams called the Maple Leaf and Maroons respectively. Today, there are many active hockey clubs in Ontario with thousands of fans watching their games every season.
In England, the first recorded game of hockey was played at University College, Oxford, in 1853. The Blackheath & Old Elthamians HC is one of the earliest sports clubs in Britain. The Dukes' ball is the oldest of all cricket balls. The ball's history stretches back to 1760, when manufacture began in Tonbridge, England. When compared to the others, the color of the ball is darker. The ball is fully handcrafted and is the most durable, as it takes a longer time to age. Typically, they last for 10 years or more.
The fact that the ball is darker in color means that it was made by Morley Cricket Balls, which is now part of JP Morgan. This in turn means that the ball has been made with rubber instead of sheep's gut. It also means that this ball was designed for use in daylight conditions, as only black pigment can be used to darken the ball without making it completely opaque.
Some people may wonder why there are no red balls in international cricket. The fact is that if a red ball was used in every match, then many games would have to be postponed because of blood stains on the pitch. Since it is not possible to keep such a ball clean, it would need to be replaced often enough to make its use uneconomical.
The ball used in domestic cricket in Australia is made by Heaf Inc., and it is white with red stripes. This ball was first used in 1877 and since then it has become one of the most iconic symbols of Australian sport.
Lords Cricket Ground in England is known as the "Mecca of Cricket." It is the headquarters of the MCC, Middlesex County, and the ECB. It also includes the world's oldest sports museum, which dates back over 200 years. The ground has been in continuous use since 1650, even during World War II.
The Melbourne Cricket Ground in Australia was built for and originally named EMCG (Established March 13, 1838). It is the home of the Australian Baseball League team the Melbourne Aces, and host to various other events including the Australian Open tennis tournament. The ground has a unique feature called The Hill, which is a flat-topped hill located in front of one end of the main grandstand. This makes it easy to spot ball-by-ball action from the stands! In addition, there are several other notable features at the ground: the famous number 1 mark used by bowlers throughout most of its history can be seen over the middle stump; and the dressing room still has space for 10 men. It is believed that this is the only cricket dressing room in Australia.
The SC Genteel Park is a cricket ground in London, England. It is the home ground of London Scottish FC. The ground opened in 1894 and has a capacity of 2,500 people.
Football Football has been played in England since at least 1314. England is home to the world's oldest football teams (going back to at least 1857), the world's oldest competition (the FA Cup, created in 1871), and the world's first football league (1888). The English game differs from most other forms of football in that it is played on a grass field using a ball that is kicked with the foot or feet rather than thrown with the head.
Hockey Hockey was originally called "cricket" when it was first introduced to England by William IV. It is a winter sport that is similar to ice hockey. The only difference between the two sports is that instead of ice, cricket uses a grass field. Cricket was later renamed "hockey" when it became popular among British soldiers stationed in India. Today, hockey is one of the most popular sports in England.
Rugby Union Rugby union was developed in England as a more aggressive version of rugby league. It is a team sport that involves running up to carry the ball into play and scoring points by kicking it downfield. Teams have 15 players on the field at a time and there are three main positions: fly-half, full-back, and wingers. The fly-half is the captain of the team and he controls the flow of the game by making tactical decisions and kicking penalties.
