Singh, Gurinder Gurinder Singh, also known as Gurinder, is the current captain of India's men's national volleyball team. He has been appointed as the head coach of the team in 2017 after having previously served as the assistant coach of the team from 2008 to 2017.
He was born on 26 August 1979 in Amritsar, Punjab, India. He graduated from Bishop Cotton School in Crondall, London and then went on to study economics at Durham University, where he played volleyball for four years.
After graduating, he returned to India and started coaching volleyball. Among other things, he was an assistant coach of the Indian men's national volleyball team from 2004 to 2008. In 2017, he was appointed as the head coach of the team.
He is well-known for his aggressive attacking style of play. Under his leadership, the Indian team has won two Asian Games gold medals, one Olympic silver medal and three World Championship titles.
He married Shikha Singh on 8 November 2001 in Amritsar. The couple has a son named Gopal who was born in 2003. Gurinder Singh filed for divorce from Shikha Singh in April 2016 citing incompatibility of character. The divorce was granted by the Delhi High Court in September 2016.

Mr. Jakhar has been associated with the sport for more than four decades. He played volleyball at a national level and has represented India at many international events. After retiring as National Coach, he took up administrative posts first before becoming Secretary General of the Volleyball Federation of India in 2001.
He has also served as President of the Asian Volleyball Confederation and Chairman of the Governing Body of Olympic Sports in India. He holds a master's degree in sports science from Punjab University, Chandigarh.
As Secretary General, Mr. Jakhar is responsible for the overall administration of the federation. He attends all meetings of the Board of Directors of the federation and ensures that all their concerns are heard by the administration. He also prepares the annual budget for the federation.
Under his guidance, the federation has become one of the leading bodies in India in terms of development of volleyball. He has helped the game grow not only in India but also in other parts of the world through his contacts.

Man Singh, P. R. Jadeja and I. S. Gujral were appointed as team managers for India's campaign in France. All three had earlier served as assistants to the coach during the 1982 ICC Trophy in England and Wales. Man Singh was named captain of the side after Rajiv Gandhi was elected prime minister.
India lost all their matches at the tournament, including their opening game against Australia, by an aggregate score of 9-1. They also failed to reach the last four for the first time in their history.
After the failure at the World Cup, India withdrew themselves from further tournaments (including the 1987 World Cricket Council's Special Event in India) until Dattu Phadkar took over as coach in 1991. Under his guidance, India won the 1992 ICC Cricket World Cup held in Australia and New Zealand. He has since then been involved with the selection panel that chooses India's squad for major events such as World Cups and Champions Trophies.
Phadke continued to be associated with the Indian cricket team after they regained their form following the World Cup success. In 1996, he managed to guide them to a semi-final finish at the Olympic Games in Atlanta.
