Jurgen Klopp, the manager of Liverpool, has been crowned the greatest manager in the world, beating out Pep Guardiola of Manchester City and Hans-Dieter Flick of Bayern Munich.
Klopp has won two UEFA Champions League titles, a record he shares with Pep Guardiola, and one European Cup. He has also won the German Bundesliga three times, more than any other coach. Last season was his most successful yet, as Liverpool won their first ever Premier League title with an undefeated record.
Klopp was born on August 13th, 1963 in Bruckberg, West Germany. He started out at Mainz 05, but after just one season there he moved to Borussia Dortmund where he stayed for eight years. In 1991, he moved to Bavaria to join up with former teammate and then-Bayern Munich head coach Franz Beckenbauer at new club Bayer Leverkusen. However, he only stayed there for one season before moving back to Dortmund where he has since managed them.
He has won every major domestic trophy available to managers, including the DFB-Pokal (German Cup), the UEFA Super Cup, the FIFA Club World Cup, and the English League Cup. He has also reached the final of the UEFA Champions League twice, losing out to Jose Mourinho's Porto in 2007 and Barcelona in 2014.
Klopp, Jurgen Jurgen Klopp of Liverpool has been crowned manager of the year at the LMA awards. The German won the Premier League title last season for the second time in three years and also led his side to FA Cup success. He is the first European manager to be given the award since Rafael Benitez in 2009.
Klopp took over at Liverpool in October 2015 after more than 20 years with German club Borussia Dortmund. Under him, the Reds have made the transition from middle-of-the-table team to champions straight away. He proved himself as a great coach by managing to win both domestic competitions in his first season.
He then went on to repeat the same feat last season by winning the Premier League/English Championship title after Chelsea beat Manchester City 2-1 in the finale. His achievements at Liverpool have never been seen before in the history of the club.
Klopp is the fourth German manager to receive the award this decade after Michael Schumacher, Dieter Hecking and Felix Magath. He earned 71 percent of the votes from his fellow managers.
