Sydney Patrick Crosby is a National Hockey League ice hockey player from Canada. He began at an early age and has aspired to be a professional footballer since he was a toddler. However, his main passion has always been hockey and today he is considered one of the best players in the world.
Crosby is a two-time winner of the Art Ross Trophy as the league's highest scoring player, a two-time winner of the Lester B. Pearson Award for sportsmanship and community involvement, and a three-time winner of the James Norris Memorial Trophy, which is given to the best non-goalie player in the league. He also holds the record for most points by a teenager (the record is now held by Alex Ovechkin).
In addition to his role on the ice, Crosby has been involved in numerous community initiatives throughout his career. He has received the King Clancy Memorial Trophy for his contributions to junior hockey, was named an inaugural member of the Canadian Olympic Committee's board of directors, and has been selected twice as one of the NHL's "Stars of Tomorrow."
Crosby was born on January 17th, 1991, in Branford, Connecticut but grew up in Prestonwood Village, a private community designed for young families near Dallas.

He is the youngest player in NHL history to earn 100 points in a season at the age of 18 years and 253 days. The previous record was held by Maurice Richard with 106 points in 1952-53 at the age of 21 years and 266 days.
He has been named the most valuable player of the year after leading the Penguins to their first Stanley Cup title. With seven goals and 31 assists for 38 points in 24 games, he had a +9 rating. His 1.88 goals per game average led all players who played at least 20 games.
Crosby became only the second teenager after Mario Lemieux to win the Art Ross Trophy as the league's top scorer when he accomplished this feat in 2009-10. The other one was Lemieux himself who did it in 1984-85 when he was playing for the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Lemieux went on to win the Hart Memorial Trophy as the league's most valuable player that same season.
Crosby is also the first rookie to lead the league in scoring since Neal Broten in 1983-84. And he's only the third player born in the 1980s to do so after Wayne Gretzky and Mark Messier.

He also won the Golden Spikes Award as the top amateur player in America. Crosby played one season of minor league baseball before turning fully to hockey. On November 2, 2009, the Pittsburgh Penguins selected Crosby with the first overall pick in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. He joined brothers Matt and Mark as members of the Penguins organization. The team's general manager, Ray Shero, described Crosby as "a once-in-a-generation talent."
