"Padres" The Mariners play six games against the National League's poorest club, the Padres, while the Athletics play six games against the first-place Giants and the Angels play six games against the second-place Dodgers. All three of these teams have losing records.
The Mariners also play five games against the Rangers, who share their stadium with Seattle's major league team. The Astros, Cubs, and Indians each have four games against the Mariners this season. Other than those eight games, any other team in baseball will only meet the Mariners once this year.
Overall, the Mariners have twenty-one opponents this season from which to choose their foes. They face all ten NL West teams, two AL East teams (the Red Sox and Rays), and one Central Division team (the Brewers).
The Mariners have been over.500 only twice in franchise history. In 1961, when the M's began play as a Washington Senators minor league team, they ended up with eighty-five wins. In 1977, after moving to Seattle, they had ninety-four victories. Both of these seasons ended in division titles though, and neither team was very good compared to most others in baseball.
In 1998, the Mariners made their first playoff appearance since 1992. They were defeated by the Braves in seven games.
The San Francisco Giants' rivalry with the Los Angeles Dodgers is one of the most storied and heated in American sports. Both clubs began their rivalry as the New York Giants and Brooklyn Dodgers, before moving west for the 1958 season.

Players who played for the Brooklyn Dodgers and the Los Angeles Dodgers are regarded to have played for distinct teams when they are divided by teams. The Houston Colt.45s and Houston Astros, on the other hand, are regarded the same team.
Since the Giants had left, the Yankees and Giants faced off in their first World Series in 1962. Both sides fought hard throughout the series. The Giants had better numbers in ERA, batting average (the Yankees had one of the lowest postseason averages ever) and all categories of extra base hits, but lost the series in seven games.
As of the completion of the 2014 baseball season, the Los Angeles Dodgers had a 5-3 lead over the San Francisco Giants in California World Series victories, but in twentieth-century New York, the Giants had a 5-1 lead over the Dodgers in World Series victories.

The rivalry between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the New York Yankees is one of the most well-known in Major League Baseball. The two clubs have met in the World Series 11 times, more than any other pair of American and National League teams. The Yankees currently hold a 7-4 series advantage over the Dodgers.
Their first meeting was on April 17, 1955. The Dodgers were hosting the Yankees at Ebbets Field in Brooklyn, New York. The Yankees won that game 3-0. Don Larsen threw the only no-hit game in MLB history before Joe DiMaggio hit a ball off the center-field light tower for a double. In the bottom of the ninth, Gil McDougald scored from third base on a groundout by Ron Fairly to give the Dodgers their only run of the game. The Yankees went on to win the Series 4-1.
Their second meeting was also played at Ebbets Field. This time, the Yankees came into town as heavy favorites because they were holding a $750,000 payroll while the Dodgers were last in the league with $500,000. The Yankees beat the Dodgers 9-8 in 12 innings on an error by shortstop Billy Jurges with the winning run scoring on a passed ball. The Yankees went on to win the Series 3-1.
Their third meeting was also held at Ebbets Field.

Seattle Mariners are a major league baseball club based in Washington. The Seattle Mariners are a professional baseball club headquartered in Seattle, Washington, United States. They are a Major League Baseball (MLB) club that plays in the American League (AL) West Division.
The longest losing streak in the contemporary two-league era is 23 games, held by the 1961 Philadelphia Phillies. The 1988 Baltimore Orioles set the American League record with 21 games. The Minnesota Twins had the longest losing streak that is completely made up of postseason games, with 18 games (2004-present).
The Giants-Yankees rivalry is a Major League Baseball rivalry between the National League's San Francisco Giants and the American League's New York Yankees. It was especially fierce when both teams shared not just New York City but also, for a period, the same ballpark.

Even yet, the Mariners have the lowest average, on-base percentage (.279), and OPS in the group (.639). They're on track for the worst hitting season in team history, with a batting average of.250. The M's have now struck out more times than they've walked in every game this year.
The pitching staff has been even worse, ranking last in both ERA (5.68) and FIP (5.44). Felix Hernandez is the only Mariner with an ERA under 5.00, and he's at 5.02. He hasn't won since July 4th and hasn't pitched into the seventh inning since June 23rd. The offense has been so bad that no Mariner has reached base safely in all but one game this season. That one exception was Ben Zobrist, who got his first hit as a Mariner on April 8th against Houston's Matt Bush.
Zobrist isn't the only bright spot for the M's this year. Robinson Cano has been one of the best hitters in baseball until he hurt himself running down the left field line during a game on May 30th. He's expected to be out for about three weeks which will further weaken an already potent Yankees lineup. Kyle Seager has been good but not great since coming over from Seattle's division rival Dodgers.
The Colorado Rockies won the National League Championship Series in 2007. The Mariners have not only never played in a World Series, but they also have the longest playoff drought of any of the four major professional sports, at 19 years.
However, as good as the Mariners have been over the past two decades, they have never made it past the Division Series stage. They've come close on several occasions, but have always fallen short. In 2001, the Mariners were one game away from going to their first World Series. However, they lost to the Oakland Athletics in five games. In 2002, the Mariners were again one game away from going to their second World Series. This time, they defeated the New York Yankees in seven games.
Currently, the Seattle Mariners play in Safeco Field. The park is known for its friendly atmosphere and great fan support. It has a total capacity of 41,000 people and was built in 1999. The M's currently sit third in the American League West behind the Los Angeles Angels and Houston Astros.
Since its opening in 1999, Safeco Field has gone over budget and three years late. It was originally supposed to be ready by 1996, but construction wasn't finished until after the Seattle SuperSonics moved to Oklahoma City.
