He has played for Manchester United, Royal Antwerp, Hull City, Tottenham Hotspur, Sunderland, Cardiff City, and Crystal Palace in the past. At international level, he represented England at under-19, under-20, and under-21 levels.

Campbell started his career at Manchester United where he made over 100 appearances before moving to Belgian side Royal Antwerp in 2013. After one season with Antwerp, he returned to England and signed with newly promoted Premier League club Hull City in July 2014. After making just three appearances for Hull, he moved on again, this time to Tottenham Hotspur for an £8 million fee.
