Golfer Tiger Woods Tiger Woods, an American professional golfer, is the most-honored ESPY winner, having garnered 21 accolades. He is also the only player to have won awards in four different categories: Best Male Athlete, Best Player, Best Championship and Best Golfer.
Woods' achievements have made him the most decorated athlete of all time, with more than half of his awards coming after he became the youngest player to ever win the Masters Tournament at age 20. He is also the first athlete to win the award in four consecutive years.
Other winners include tennis players Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, who each have five awards; basketball player Michael Jordan, who has four; and baseball players Barry Bonds and Tim Salmon, who both have three.
The ESPY Award for Best NFL Player is awarded annually to the best football player in the National Football League (NFL). It was created in 1993 when John Elway was unable to attend the ESPYS due to injury, so his wife Jane accepted on his behalf. The first annual ESPY Awards took place on July 11, 1993 at a ceremony held at the Hollywood Palladium and were hosted by Charlie's Angels star Cameron Diaz.

"ESPY Awards 2017: Simone Biles and Russell Westbrook win Best Athlete-As It Happened" The Observer The original version was preserved on October 18, 2017. October 31st, 2017. Because the ESPY Awards presentation was rescheduled, the honor granted in 2002 was based on performance between February 2001 and June 2002.
Biles is a seven time award winner, more than any other athlete. She won the award for "Best Female Athlete" in 2014, 2016, and 2017. Westbrook is the only player to win the award twice. He won in 2012 and 2013.
Biles has appeared at this year's awards ceremony wearing a black dress with white stripes and a blue ribbon trim. Her hair is in pigtails.
Westbrook wore a black tuxedo during his first two appearances, but since 2004 he has been wearing a custom-made suit from designer Michael Bastian. During the awards ceremony that year, Westbrook told reporters that he had also purchased a $30,000 car from Mercedes-Benz after winning last year's award.
Biles has won several other awards throughout her career. She is the most decorated American athlete of all time with two gold medals, four overall medals in the women's gymnastics team event at the Olympics, and a silver medal from the 2008 Summer Games in Beijing. Biles also has six world championship titles to her name.
Sam Kerr solidified her standing as a worldwide athletic star by winning two prizes at the prestigious 2019 ESPYs. Kerr was awarded the Best International Women's Soccer Player as well as the Best NWSL Player, joining the likes of Serena Williams and Tiger Woods among sportsmen nominated in their respective sports. The 29-year-old from Melbourne also took home a prize for Best Style after being photographed wearing a black TIGERSTRIKEMAG.com t-shirt with red trim and a white tiger head logo.
Kerr is the first player to win multiple prizes at the annual event which celebrates the best athletes in sport. She joins an exclusive group that includes American basketball players LeBron James and Kevin Durant, as well as Australian tennis stars Roger Federer and Andy Murray.
Kerr became the first female soccer player to win the award for Best International Woman Athlete when she was announced as winner at the annual ESPYs ceremony in Los Angeles on Wednesday night. The former Chelsea and Chicago Red Stars player has been ranked world number one by FIFA for several months running and is considered one of the greatest women's footballers in history.
She achieved international fame when she scored six goals in five matches to lead her country to the quarter-finals of the 2015 World Cup in Canada. Kerr went on to score three more goals during Australia's campaign, including the opening goal of their 3-1 victory over Thailand in the last 16 stage of the tournament.

The location is set to be announced later this year.
The 2021 ESPYS will be held in New York City. The Rooftop at Pier 17 has been selected as the venue for the event. This will be the second time that New York has hosted the ESPYS; the 2001 ceremonies were also held in Manhattan's Central Park.
The location was chosen by vote of fans on Twitter using the #ESPYS hashtag. Over 1,000 votes were cast during the three-day period ending on June 25. The Rooftop at Pier 17 received more votes than any other location. Other candidates included Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, New York City, San Francisco, and Washington, D.C.
The site selection committee said: "We're excited to bring the ESPYS to New York for the second time. Not only is the city one of the world's great cultural capitals, but it also offers a unique setting for an unforgettable celebration of athletic achievement."
Woods received the award five times: in 1998 (together with Ken Griffey Jr.), 2000, 2001, 2002, and 2008. Armstrong got the award four times between 2003 and 2006, while James received it three times in 2012, 2013 and 2016. Basketball is the most successful sport, with nine trophies given to its players since its start. Baseball has eight, while football and ice hockey have one each.
Tiger Woods was the favorite to win the ESPY Award for Best Male Athlete in 1998 when he first won the award. He beat out fellow golfers Greg Norman and Ben Hogan for the prize. Since then, he has continued to be nominated for the award every year except 2001 when he was too busy playing in the NFL to be considered. In 2008, after his second divorce, Woods returned to golf but had less success than before his divorce. Despite this, he again won the award over other sports stars including Peyton Manning, Kobe Bryant, and Alex Rodriguez.
Woods has also won the award five times as a player: in 1998, 2000, 2001, 2002, and 2008. This makes him the most decorated athlete in the history of the award. Bill Russell and Larry Bird have both won the award four times each, but they were also named MVP of their leagues twice each, so they are tied with Woods as well as Michael Jordan for the all-time lead. LeBron James has won three times, while Tim Duncan, Roger Federer, and Serena Williams have won twice each.
