All had exceptional homer-hitting careers, which added to the glitter of the fact that Thome surpassed them all, at least in terms of raw amount of career home runs and walk-off home runs: "Single Season Leaders for Grand Slams": Jim Thome 13, Babe Ruth 12, Jimmie Foxx 12, Stan Musial 12, Mickey Mantle 12, Frank Robinson 12. List of statistics about Thome.
In case you were wondering, there are several other ways to break up this list: # of Years Leading Offense - Joe DiMaggio (1929-41) - 56 years. Total Bases / At-Bat - Eddie Murray (1985-89) - 5.286. These are just some of the many statistics that can be found on the Baseball Reference website. This tool is very useful if you want to find out more about players from a statistical standpoint. For example, you can learn how many times each player was on base per game during his career.
Here's another way to look at it: From 1947 through 1989, only five men hit more than 300 homers: Ted Williams (401), Jimmie Foxx (382), Lou Gehrig (337), Barry Bonds (756), and Mike Schmidt (304). Between the years of 1990 and 2015, another seven men broke the 300-home run mark: Mark McGwire (370), Sammy Sosa (621), Ken Griffey Jr (529), Alex Rodriguez (714), Greg Vaughn (300), Larry Walker (336), and Chipper Jones (319).

The Baseball Almanac is proud to offer the top 1,000 all-time career grand slam leaders. A bolded item indicates that the player played in the preceding major league season.
A player can hit a grand slam in several ways: by hitting a ball over the left field wall, under the right field stands, or straight down the middle. To be eligible for the batting title, a player must have batted in at least one inning of a game played during the season. If a player does not meet this requirement but still wins the batting title, he will be awarded a batting average based on the number of balls he has struck out vs. the number of balls he has been given up on base. For example, if a player strikes out 40 times and gets 10 bases on balls, his batting average would be.500. The most frequent way to hit a grand slam is to hit a ball over the fence with two outs and none on base. This happens about once every four games on average.
In baseball, a grand slam is a home run (a ball that travels farthest) that also scores any number of runs due to its location within the field. It is rare but not impossible for a hitter to hit a ball so far that it goes over the left field wall, under the right field stands, and into the stands behind first base.

Derek Jeter (.324, 19 HR, 84 RBI), SS Martinez, Tino (.281, 28 home runs, 123 RBI) O'Neill, Paul (.317, 24 HR, 116 RBI) The home run race between Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris was the season's most compelling narrative, with Maris breaking Ruth's single-season record. However, it was Yankee shortstop Derek Jeter who stole the spotlight with his MVP-caliber season. In addition to being the team leader in hits (226), runs (98), and stolen bases (47), he finished second in batting average to San Diego's Tony Gwynn (.324). Jeter also won his third consecutive Gold Glove award for best defensive player in baseball.
Martinez led all Yankees with 28 homers before he was traded to Seattle during the season. He played only part of 2001 for the Mariners due to a leg injury that forced him to miss the entire year. (He returned in 2002.)
Tino Cueto was brought in at the end of August as a replacement for Martinez. The 37-year-old left-handed hitter had last played in 1995 for the Chicago Cubs.
The Yankees' lineup was one of the most potent in baseball throughout the regular season, finishing first in both total bases (967) and slugging percentage (._422). Their.443 average was the highest in the league.
In the postseason, however, they were unable to finish off their opponents.
