The Dallas Mavericks' Boban Marjanovic and the Philadelphia 76ers' Tobias Harris have reunited. They're back with their silly antics. This time, they're trying to help a goldfish named Frank escape from his aquarium during Christmas vacation.
Here's the ad:
And here are Marjanovic and Harris singing "We Wish You a Merry Christmas":
Now that's what I call work-life balance!
I love this ad because it makes me laugh every time I watch it. And that's exactly why I think it's great marketing. It reminds us that we need to stop working so hard and have some fun along the way.
Have you seen any other awesome commercials lately? I'd love to hear about them!
Marjanovic, Boban. The Serbian shot-blocking king was a key part of his country's national team that made it to the EuroBasket final in 2007. That year, he became the first player to be named MVP of two NBA Finals games.
He currently plays for the Los Angeles Clippers and has been one of the best defenders in the league since coming over from Europe. He's also one of the most popular players on his team, having joined them after winning three championships with the Miami Heat.
Boban Marjanović was born on January 4th, 1979 in Belgrade, Yugoslavia (now Serbia). His mother Svetlana is a nurse while his father Dragan is a physical therapist. He has two siblings: a sister named Danijela who is one year younger than him and a brother named Marko who is five years older than him.
When he was a child, his parents took him to many basketball games because his father used to play in college. He wanted his sons to follow in his footsteps so he could help out his impoverished country by playing basketball.
He was joined by a number of modern basketball players, including Zion Williamson, Jayson Tatum, and Elena Delle Donne. All three are Nike endorsers, with Williamson and Tatum both representing Jordan Brand. We wanted to # BeLikeMike at the time.
This ad was released in 2008. At the time, many people compared Michael Jordan to Walt Disney because he had done so much marketing for his brands. This ad is a good example of this marketing strategy: It makes Jordan seem like one of the most important people in history even though he was only alive for part of it.
Here's how they used technology to make this ad more interesting: The basketball game that some of these athletes are playing in has an animated background. Also, when you watch the video now you can see things like air balls, missed shots, and other aspects of basketball that would have made this ad more interesting back in 2008. And we all know what name will appear first in any Google search.
The Nets are considered Eastern Conference title hopefuls, and with Jersey native Kyrie Irving as one of the franchise's two faces with Kevin Durant, the organization is inviting the Garden State to come along for the trip.
New Jersey has won more than 30 games in a season twice in the last 20 years, and its recent history also includes titles in 1995, 2005, and 2006. The team plays its home games at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
Its owner, Mikhail Prokhorov, is a Russian billionaire who also owns the Russian National Team. He took over the team in 2010 after a previous ownership group failed to deliver on a promise of a new stadium. Since then, the Nets have been playing in Newark, about an hour away from Manhattan, since their original home of Madison Square Garden was not available for use during the NBA season. Prokhorov has said he wants to move the team back to New York City where it started before they moved to Newark.
He has expressed his desire to bring a championship to New Jersey, and with plenty of money to spend he has made some impressive moves that have the state dreaming big things for its basketball team.
