Haryana. Haryana is a state that is well-known for its sporting prowess. Haryana is well-known for its historic prowess in sports like as kho-kho, judo, kabaddi, boxing, and wrestling. The state has produced many world-class wrestlers over the years.
Wrestling is popular in Haryana because of several national-level wrestlers who have come out of this state. Out of these top wrestlers, Chandrarao Prasad Pandey and Gama Singh are considered among the greatest Indian wrestlers of all time.
Pandey was one of the main protagonists in the 1947 film Wrestling Champion which portrayed his life story accurately. He worked as an actor in this movie.
Pandey won a gold medal at the 1951 Asian Games held in Delhi and also won bronze medals at the 1954 Asian Games and 1958 Asian Games. He remained undefeated during his career and won all his matches by pinfall or submission.
Pandey retired from active wrestling in 1959 but continued to coach others until his death in 2009 at the age of 90.
Gama Singh was one of the most successful wrestlers in Asia in the 1950s and 1960s. He won a silver medal at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics and a gold medal at the 1959 World Wrestling Championships held in Tokyo.
Kushti, Indian Wrestling, Vallamkali, Jallikattu, and other ancient sports have grown popular in India. India is also well-known for its rich culture and customs. Mallakhamb, commonly known as the pole dance of India, is a traditional sport in India. It is one of India's most demanding sports. Participants use their bodies to push heavy poles (mallas) across the ground. The person who completes a round without being forced off the stage wins.
India has a long history of wrestling dating back over 3000 years. It is considered the father of all martial arts and its techniques are used in many other sports including acrobatics, gymnastics, and combat sports such as karate and jiujitsu.
Wrestling is widely practiced in India with several championships being held every year. In fact, it is the only Asian country where wrestling is an official Olympic sport. The modern form of the sport was developed in the 19th century by British officers while they were stationed in India. Today, international wrestlers come to India to compete in the World Wrestling Championships which are held annually in Mumbai.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is a professional cricket league in India that began on 8 April 2008. The concept was proposed by Lalit Modi, then chairman of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The first season had eight teams who played 50 matches each with the top four qualifying for the playoffs. The Mumbai Indians won the first IPL championship.
In 2013, the BCCI announced the formation of a new franchise in Bengaluru called the Karnataka Kookies. This marks the first time in history that two states will have competing franchises in the IPL.

Cricket and football are the most popular sports in the Indian state of West Bengal. In contrast to other Indian states where cricket is the most popular sport, football is the most popular sport in West Bengal. The origin of cricket in India can be traced back to 17th century England where it was originally known as "Indian Cricket". In 1877, an Englishman named James Lillywhite published a book called "Lillywhite's Cricketers' Companion" which included rules for how cricket should be played. This led to the development of many different types of cricket, some similar to what we play today and others very different.
In India, cricket is played by men and women together in all-female teams or "scissors" and also by males alone on private grounds known as "stumps". The first international match played between India and England was held at Calcutta (now Kolkata) in 1877. It is this game that gives rise to the terms "cricketian paradise" and "cricket famine". Since then, more than 100 more matches have been played between the two countries, with India winning almost every time.
Football is widely popular in South Asia including in India where it is an official Olympic sport. The Indian Football Team has won three gold medals and one bronze at the Olympics.
Field hockey is India's most successful Olympic sport, with the Indian men's team winning eight gold medals. Badminton, football, shooting, wrestling, boxing, tennis, squash, weightlifting, gymnastics, athletics, table tennis, basketball, volleyball, and cycling are all prominent sports in India.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is also widely regarded as one of the best cricket tournaments in the world. Football is popular in northern India while baseball is played in the west.
Basketball was originally not very popular in India but now many colleges play it. There are also many schools that play field hockey. Wrestling is popular among young Indians who can be seen watching matches on television during World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) events.
The term "sport" itself may be used in a generic sense to describe any form of physical activity that requires skill and exercise control of the body. However many sports involve elements of risk to the player, such as injuries or death.
