The stadium would replace Nicollet Park as the home of the Minneapolis Millers of the American Association. The location was roughly equidistant from the downtowns of Minneapolis and St. Paul, and it was thought to be the greatest location for a potential major league franchise. However, after the Millers failed miserably at the game's opening day on April 7, 1871, they were forced to move to St. Louis, Missouri.
The original ballpark was a modest affair with no real distinguishing features other than its size. It could hold up to 10,000 people but had only six lanes of traffic coming into the site from Interstate 94. The lack of adequate roadways was likely one of the reasons that the franchise was unable to draw large crowds during their two-year existence.
In 1973, the city of Minneapolis acquired the ballpark site through eminent domain proceedings and developed it into Downtown West Shopping Plaza. Today, the ballpark site is occupied by several large office buildings including City Hall. A few blocks away is the Minnesota State Capitol building which was also built using funds from the sale of public assets following the '63 flood.
The last game played at Nicollet Park was on September 17, 1971. The Milwaukee Brewers won the first game of a doubleheader against the Houston Astros 4-3 in 11 innings. The Millers lost the second game 1-0.

There are several good reasons why State Farm Arena is the best baseball stadium in Atlanta: its location, its amenities, and its price tag. The new stadium is only minutes from Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, has easy access to I-85, and is close to many downtown hotels. Parking at State Farm is affordable ($20 for game days) and there's also a parking garage across the street from the arena (price varies depending on how much time you want to spend there).
The stadium was built in 2001 and has 20,000 seats in total. There are four levels with the main floor being reserved for ticket holders while the other three are open air. The venue is covered by a canopy when it rains so people don't have to worry about wet clothes or shoes.
