The University of Idaho's intercollegiate athletic team is the Idaho Vandals, based in Moscow. As a member of the Big Sky Conference, the Vandals compete at the NCAA Division I level.
The university's basketball program was established in 1950. The Vandals have made the NIT twice and the CBI once. They currently play their home games at the Kibbie Dome in Moscow. The facility has a capacity of 10,099 people and was built in 1989.
Head coach Dennis Erickson has led the Vandals to a 88-79 record over five seasons. Before coming to Idaho, he coached for five years at Wisconsin where he won 50 games. On March 16, 2013 it was announced that Erickson would not return as head coach next season. He was paid $500,000 per year by Idaho.
Former NBA player Jerry Tarkanian was hired as Erickson's replacement on April 1, 2013. Tarkanian had been serving as an assistant under Erickson at Wisconsin before being named the Vandals' leader. He resigned from this position on March 31, 2014 after being accused of sexual harassment by two former assistants. He has denied these allegations.
In his first season at Idaho, Tarkanian took the Vandals to the NIT where they lost to Georgia in the first round.
The Sacramento State Hornets men's basketball team plays for California State University, Sacramento in Sacramento, California. Since joining the Big Sky Conference in 1996, the Hornets have yet to compete in the NCAA Division I Tournament or the National Invitation Tournament (NIT).
They are currently coached by Mark Fox who was hired on March 16, 2006 after former head coach Don Maples finished his third season with a 20-14 record. Before coming to Sacramento State, Fox was an assistant under Matt Kellenbeck at Colorado from 1994 to 1995 and from 1997 to 2001. The Golden Bears made the NCAAs four times during that time period.
Sacramento State's home court is the 10,000-seat Hornet Arena at Sierra Hall. It opened in 1974 and has been renovated several times since then; most recently in 2009 when new seats were added and the floor replaced.
The Sacramento State women's basketball team plays in the West Coast Conference. They have never appeared in the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Tournament or the WNIT.
They are currently coached by Stephanie Mavunga who was hired on April 11, 2011 after former head coach Gary Graham finished her first season at Sac State with a 17-16 record.
The UNLV Runnin' Rebels are an NCAA Division I men's basketball team based in the Las Vegas suburb of Paradise, Nevada, that plays in the Thomas & Mack Center. UNLV has the fourth-highest winning percentage (.712) in Division I history in 2009, below Kentucky, North Carolina, and Kansas but ahead of UCLA and Duke. The Runnin' Rebels have made at least the Elite Eight eight times in school history.
The team was founded as a member of the Pacific Coast Athletic Association before moving up to the Western Athletic Conference in 1951. They left the WAC after one season and moved down to the Big West where they have remained since 1978. They have won or shared the conference title nine times, including a share of the first Big West championship in 1979. After spending most of their early years as an independent, UNLV joined the Mountain West in 2012.
They have been ranked in the top 25 each year of their existence and have had 12 players selected in the NBA Draft, most recently Anthony Bennett in 2014. Nine of those players have gone on to be picked in the first round.
UNLV's all-time leading scorer is David Anderson with 2,921 points scored over his career. His number 10 has been retired by the university. Head coach Jerry Tarkanian is the all-time leader in victories with 930 wins. He also has the highest winning percentage (.708) of any active head coach in the nation.

The squad is now a member of the Atlantic 10 Conference. In 2018, the squad competed in the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament for the first time.
Davidson plays an aggressive brand of basketball that focuses on defense and has a strong running game. This style of basketball is known as "small ball" because they like to use smaller players on the court at a time, with the intent of forcing opposing teams into making mistakes or losing focus. Although Davidson usually ranks near the bottom of most statistical categories, they do have one of the most successful programs in college basketball history. They have won more than 300 games over the past 40 years, which is second only to Kansas in men's basketball.
Davidson has appeared in the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament nine times since it started in 1939. They have a record of 7-2 in these rounds. The most recent appearance came in 2018 when they lost to Virginia in the first round.
The team is coached by David McLaughlin who took over after John Davidson retired in 1996. He is a former NBA player who spent eight seasons in the league with the New York Knicks and Chicago Bulls. David McLaughlin has led the Wildcats to seven straight postseason appearances, including a trip to the NCAAs in 2018.
