Paquette brings to the Lightning a rugged, hard-nosed approach. That reputation earned the forward from Gaspe, Quebec, his first call-up to Tampa Bay at the close of the 2013-14 season, after scoring 20 goals and accumulating 153 penalty minutes in 70 games with Syracuse of the American Hockey League. Before that, he notched 26 goals and 152 PIM in four seasons with Montreal from 2010-2014.

Capitals winger Tom Wilson said the league should look at the strong hit delivered by Lightning defenseman Anton Stralman, which caused Wilson to leave the game temporarily on Tuesday night. The NHL's disciplinary committee is reviewing the incident for possible sanctions.
Paquette had nine goals and 14 assists in 79 games last season. He won the Calder Trophy as the league's top rookie after scoring 39 points in 2007-08 while playing for the Quebec Remparts of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
The 25-year-old native of Montreal also has three goals this preseason. "I think he's been really good," Lightning coach Jon Cooper said. "He's got some great hands; he creates opportunities for himself out there. I think he's done a real good job."
Paquette was drafted by the Lightning in the second round (44th overall) in 2006. He played one season at Boston University before turning pro.
Stralman was suspended for two games in November 2012 for his role in a fight between the Capitals and Flyers. Prior to that incident, Stralman had only four fights during his first 82 career games.
Now 26, Stralman has increased those numbers to 34 since then.
Paquette was signed to a three-year, entry-level professional contract by the Tampa Bay Lightning on May 3, 2013, and was assigned to their American Hockey League (AHL) club, the Syracuse Crunch, to begin the 2013-14 season. He was called up to play with the Lightning during the 2013 Stanley Cup playoffs.
Paquette made his NHL debut on April 9, 2014 against the Montreal Canadiens at the Bell Centre. He played 16:44 in that game before being replaced by Matt Carle.
He scored his first career goal on April 11, 2014 against Dustin Tokarski of the Winnipeg Jets in a 4-3 loss at the St. Pete Times Forum. The goal came at 14:57 of the second period and put the Lightning ahead 1-0. It was also Paquette's only point in four games played that season.
He finished his first pro season with six goals and nine points in 37 games. The Lightning were eliminated from playoff contention after losing their final game of the season on April 7, 2015. Paquette didn't play in any playoff games.
In 2015-16, he improved upon those numbers with 34 points in 76 games, helping the Crunch win the AHL's East Division title. Paquette was named an alternate captain for the team.

He previously played with HC Kometa Brno in the Czech Extraliga and continues to be one of the top goaltenders in the league despite not playing for a single team in 2014-15.
