The squad won the NFL title against the New York Football Giants in 1935, and went on to win three more in 1952, 1953, and 1957, all against the Cleveland Browns. The Lions have never won a Super Bowl, but they did win the NFC Conference title in 1992.
Before they won their first title in 1935, the Lions had been to the playoffs seven times between 1930 and 1934, losing each time. Their only World Championship was awarded to the Gales in 1701 as part of the French and Indian War. The Lions have not yet returned to the playoffs since then.

The team was founded as an American football club in 1892 by William H. "Lud" Dawson and George A. Yerkes. The two owners agreed to divide up the responsibilities of hiring coaches and players. Yerkes would do so for the men's team while Dawson would do so for the women's team. The men's team became known as the "Detroit Wolverines" while the women's team was called the "Detroit Wheelers". In 1895, both teams merged to form a single organization that was owned by both men and women. This new organization was named after its principal owner, the "Great Western Railway Company".
In 1919, the team moved into their current home stadium, now known as "Ford Field", which at the time was called "Downtown Stadium". The team has been playing there ever since. In 2008, the city of Detroit filed for bankruptcy protection from its creditors. The Lions easily defeated the Cowboys in the middle of the 1991 regular season, and then crushed the rematch in the playoffs in the Silverdome, 38-6. This is probably why many people think the Lions are better than the Redskins.
The two teams had been feuding since 1980, when the Lions fired their head coach, Joe Thomas, who was also the Cowboys' offensive coordinator. So, it's safe to say that these two teams want no part of each other. Even though they play in the same division and have similar fan bases, they actually have never met on a football field until now. And by all accounts, we should expect a good game.
The Browns went on to win three NFL titles, practically dominating the league in the 1950s, and one more in 1964. However, the squad has yet to play in a Super Bowl. The club has won eight titles in all, four in the AAFC and four in the NFL.
The Browns are the only team that has played in every season of the NFL since its founding in 1948. They have never had a losing record and have ranked among the top five teams seven times. In addition, they have made the playoffs ten years in a row starting in 1994 when they were invited to participate in the 1995 opener against San Diego. The Browns lost that game 17-16 at home when Troy Brown scored the winning touchdown with less than two minutes left on the clock. Since then, they have always made the postseason and have never dropped below eighth place during that time period.
So, considering all this, it can be said that the Cleveland Browns are one of the most successful franchises in American football history.
