This specific event will go down in WWE history as a watershed moment. At WrestleMania XII, Shawn Michaels won his first WWE Championship by defeating Bret "The Hitman" Hart in an epic 60-minute Iron Man Match. Shawn struck a stunning Sweet Chin Music at the extra stanza in the epic ending. This was also the first time that a wrestler other than The Rock has held this title.

After the Rockers split up and Shawn Michaels became a solitary wrestler after betraying his teammate Marty Jannetty, In a similar development, Michaels met with Vince McMahon to discuss his persona.
Shawn Michaels made an angelic entrance in white, while his opponent, The Undertaker, brought darkness into the arena. Many of the almost 72,000 WWE fans in attendance put the match succinctly: "This is great!" Streaks are designed to be broken.
Shawn Michaels' professional wrestling career ended at WrestleMania XXVI when he battled The Undertaker in a highly lauded rematch of their previous year's clash. In addition, John Cena won the WWE Championship and Chris Jericho retained the World Heavyweight Championship during the event.
Shawn Michaels made the transition from mid-carder to main eventer when he won the Royal Rumble match for the first time in 1995. WWE made the risky choice of having Michaels enter the bout early and last to the finish as a villain to win. The next year, he won another important bout in the 1996 Royal Rumble. In 1997, he went on to win his third Royal Rumble match.
These three wins are the only ones that have been awarded since then. However, they do not count towards any title belts so they are basically meaningless at this point.
He has also participated in four other Royal Rumble matches but he never finished in the top two and was eliminated each time. His final appearance in the Rumble came in 2001 when he again entered at number one and was eliminated by Kurt Angle.
Overall, Shawn Michaels is one of the greatest Royal Rumbles participants ever with three victories. He is also one of only five people to win the match more than once (the others are Ric Flair, Bret Hart, John Cena, and Daniel Bryan).
The first saw The Rock capture the WWF Championship by defeating Kurt Angle in a traditional wrestling contest, despite intervention from The Big Show. In the opposite main event, Triple H defeated Steve Austin two falls to one in a two-out-of-three-falls match. This was followed by a segment with Vince McMahon in which he announced that The Rock had become the new champion.
They were both put over very well, and their feud continued on television until December 2002, when The Rock lost his title to Triple H at the Royal Rumble. However, since then they have had multiple matches against each other, with The Rock winning most of them. Their last encounter at WrestleMania 23 resulted in a no-contest after both men were attacked by Vince McMahon.
It is generally accepted by fans and wrestlers themselves that The Rock is the first ever WWF Champion. However, since neither The Rock nor Vince McMahon acknowledge this fact, it cannot be confirmed by WWE or any other source.
Shawn Michaels is renowned as Mr. WrestleMania because of his outstanding performances on The Grandest Stage of Them All, and several of his matches rank among the finest ever seen at WWE's largest event. Michaels' victories over The Ultimate Warrior at WrestleMania 20 and John Cena at WrestleMania 29 are considered by many to be some of the greatest moments in wrestling history.
He achieved his first WrestleMania victory by defeating The Ultimate Warrior at the 1990 show in Oakland County (now known as Detroit), Michigan. This was one of only two WrestleManias that was not held in a stadium (the other being 1996). The match lasted more than 10 minutes and included references to both men's careers (including a reference to the fact that they were both born in 1965) and included numerous near-falls and tough spots. At one point, both men went out of their way to thank fans for their support during a very intense contest.
Michaels won his second WrestleMania title shot but this time against The Rock 'n' Roll Express at the 1991 show in Madison Square Garden. In what has become one of the most infamous matches in wrestling history, The Showstopper vs. The American Dream ended in a no-contest after Michaels attacked both members of The Rock 'n' Roll Express with a steel chair after they both hit him with simultaneous superkicks.
Shawn Michaels defeated Santana at WrestleMania VIII in his first important WrestleMania bout as a villain, with Sensational Sherri as his manager. Fans expected Shawn vs. Marty Jannetty to make up for the Rockers' divorce, but instead got a subpar battle on a dismal WrestleMania program. BEST VS. Chris Jerico (XIX) - This is probably not what you expect from these two guys given how over they were during their time together as a tag team. But this bout proved that they were one of the greatest matches ever at WrestleMania and one of the best matches of all time.
The match started out fast-paced and aggressive, with both men trying to gain an advantage over the other. Soon after, Sherri came into the ring to make her husband break away from Marty and focus on her instead. This allowed Sherri to get some offense in against her former partner, including a perfect sunset flip onto her head.
After that, Michaels went back to fighting Marty, with both men taking turns dominating each other throughout the entire match. At one point, Marty nailed a German suplex on Shawn, but he recovered quickly and hit a second rope leg drop for a close 1-up win.
This match has become known as one of the best WrestleMania matches of all time because of its high quality combined with memorable moments. It's a shame that most people don't know about it since it took place at such a prestigious event.
