World War I ended with an armistice not a peace treaty, so there was still fighting between the countries that were involved. One of the annual Golden Globe Awards, the Golden Globe Award for Finest Television Series-Drama is granted to the best drama television series. This prize is also open to documentaries and mini-series. It was first awarded at the 1st Golden Globe Awards in 1949 when they were called Globe Awards. The award is an engraved golden globe mounted on a base of rock crystal.
The winners are determined by votes from members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA). The HFPA consists of around 150 journalists who cover the film industry. Their role is to select what they believe to be the best films and television shows each year. They do this by voting for their favorites within different categories. Then the winners are announced at a ceremony held in Los Angeles.
The most successful television series have been won by its corresponding movie. For example, "M*A*S*H" won in both 1973 and 1975 for Best Drama Series. In addition, three other series have won twice: "Star Trek", "Lincoln" and "Jefferson Davis".
There have been cases where a series has won without having been submitted. For example, "Mad Men" was nominated for six Golden Globes but never won any awards.
