In 2005, the Mat Hoffman Action Sports Park in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, also opened. It has since been named one of the top ten such parks in the country. Hoffman was inducted into the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame in February 2018.
Hoffman died at age 49 on August 4, 2006 after being hit by a car while riding his motorcycle. The accident occurred as he returned home from a local skatepark where he had been teaching classes. He is survived by his wife, two children, and two brothers.
After graduating from high school, Hoffman traveled across America working various jobs including truck driver, bouncer, and gas station clerk before settling in Oklahoma City where he started a business repairing shoes for other people's boots and selling them online. In 2001, Hoffman created a new form of martial art called "action sports kung fu" which combines the fundamentals of kickboxing with the versatility of skateboarding and surfing. He taught several classes throughout 2002 and 2003 before closing down due to health issues related to his prosthetic leg. In 2004, he announced the creation of a new action sports kung fu school called "10th Planet Academy". The school opened in May 2005 with Hoffman acting as both teacher and student.

BMX racing began back in 1978 in California. There are two types of racing: street and track. Street racing takes place on dirt or asphalt streets, while track racing happens on indoor or outdoor tracks. There is also a variety of classes for both types of racing. The biggest difference between street and track racing is the length of the race. In street races, the goal is simply to finish each lap before your opponents do. In track races, however, the goal is to show how fast you can go around each curve and jump. The better you are at doing this, the faster you will go round each lap and the closer you will come to winning.

When it opened in 2010, the 30,000-seat state-of-the-art stadium was a long-overdue addition to Melbourne's sporting environment, with events formerly hosted next door at the now-demolished Olympic Park. The new venue is the home of the Australian Football League's Richmond Tigers and the National Rugby League's Melbourne Storm.
It took almost a decade to design, build and finance the stadium. The AFL and NRL had been pushing for another football stadium to be built in Melbourne to replace the one at MCG which was being used for other sports. In 2004, Hoffman opened a restaurant in San Francisco called Caffeine Underground. The following year, he launched another business venture with friend and skateboard photographer Jason Lee called Subliminal Projects. The company created music videos for artists such as The Cure, Modest Mouse, and Interpol.
