At WrestleMania 28 and 29, John Cena and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson competed in back-to-back main events, but their animosity extended beyond the ring. The two wrestlers have fought each other multiple times, with The Rock being victorious every time.
They first met at SummerSlam 2007 when Cena defeated The Rock via disqualification after both men attacked each other on the floor. The next night on Raw, The Rock confronted Cena about why he didn't defend his title against him, which led to them fighting again at Night of Champions where Cena defeated The Rock again via disqualification when both men attacked each other off the stage.
Their third match was at UFC 100 where The Rock challenged Cena to a match at WrestleMania 23 where The Rock would be fired up by the presence of his family while Cena went into the match as a favorite but ended up being defeated by The Rock.
Their fourth match was at Fastlane 2013 where The Rock returned from injury and took part in the Fatal 4-Way match for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 30 where he was unsuccessful in getting back his title.
Their fifth match was at Royal Rumble 2014 where The Rock entered at Number One while Cena entered at Number Two. Their rivalry reached its climax at the Elimination Chamber where The Rock defeated Cena via submission.
Cena and Johnson competed in back-to-back main events at WrestleMania 28 and 29, but their feud extended beyond the ring. Cena admitted in a Q&A session at Salt Lake Comic Con last year that he and "Rocky" became "very personal" as they traded verbal attacks. "I said some things that were less than polite," he added.
Their first showdown was at WrestleMania X8, where Cena defeated Johnson to become World Wrestling Federation (WWF) champion for the first time in his career. The two later faced off at other major promotions including King of the Ring and Bullring Boxing, with both men winning several matches.
They next met at UFC 190, where Cena fought Daniel Bryan in a non-title match. The winner would challenge Johnson for the title at the following month's UFC 197. In what has become an iconic moment in WWE history, Bryan pinned Cena down at 2 minutes and 20 seconds into the match to win the match and set up their title match at TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs.
Bryan went on to defeat the champion at the event in Las Vegas, but this only served to fuel the fire between these two wrestlers. They finally met in a no holds barred match at Night of Champions, where Cena defeated Johnson to win their rivalry. Since then, they have competed against each other in several more matches including Battle of the Billionaires, which was won by Cena, and All-Stars, which was won by Johnson.
Real-life rivalry between Dwayne Johnson and John Cena became a WWE storyline. Johnson and Cena are now good friends, although they used to avoid one other. Cena became the WWE's primary star after Johnson left to pursue a career in Hollywood. Cena followed in the footsteps of Johnson and became a movie star as well. They have both been nominated for several awards and have each won one.
Cena was first introduced to fans via an online video in December 2002. At the time, The Rock was already a popular figure in wrestling circles, due to his recent success in the movie world. Cena has been praised for his involvement in WWE programming, especially after The Rock left the company in April 2003.
They first met in person at WrestleMania 23, where Cena defeated The Rock in a boxing match. Since then, they have had multiple encounters at other major events including Survivor Series (where Cena defeated The Rock in another boxing match) and New Year's Eve (where Cena lost to The Rock in a steel cage match).
Their relationship began to heat up after The Rock announced that he was returning to WWE for SummerSlam 2003. On the night before the event, Cena sent The Rock an open letter thanking him for helping him become a big star and saying that he looks forward to seeing him again at SummerSlam. Some fans believed this to be a sign that they were going to fight each other at the event, but that wasn't the case.
