The 1998–99 season was Manchester United Football Club's most successful season in its history. After being undefeated the previous season, United won the triple of trophies (the Premier League, FA Cup, and UEFA Champions League), becoming the first team in English football to do so. The club also set several records during that season: it is the first team to win the double (Premier League and FA Cup) since Blackburn Rovers in 1995, it is the first team to score 100 goals in a single season, and it is the first team to be undefeated after six games of a league campaign.
Additionally, United won its first European title when it defeated Rennes 4-3 on penalties after the match had ended 1-1 after 90 minutes and then again in the penalty shootout. This remains the only time that Manchester United has won the UEFA Champions League.
Key players at the end of the 1997–98 season included Peter Schmeichel in goal, Eric Cantona and Andrei Kreymer up front, and David Beckham and Paul Scholes on display in midfield. These five players were named as the PFA Players' Player of the Year Award. In addition, Eric Brynjolfsson and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer were nominated but did not receive votes from the other members of the panel.

Manchester United (1993-94 season) Manchester United were repeated championship winners in the Premier League's early years, but this was their most overpowering success of the 1990s: a magnificent, tough, and consistent team. However, he was eventually forced to leave United after Ferguson felt that he could not continue playing second fiddle to Cristiano Ronaldo at the Bernabeu.
Another great player who has had a long career at United is Ryan Giggs. The Welsh international started out as a midfielder but later on became known for his role behind the striker. He is still active today and plays occasional matches for United's under-23 team.
