Brett died in October 2016 at the age of 85 after suffering from dementia. He had two children with his wife, Debbie. One son, Mark, plays in the MLB while the other, Jeff, is a minor league manager.

The Kansas City Royals retired George Brett's number 5 in 1994. His 3,154 career hits rank him 16th all-time and the most by any third baseman in big league history.
George is largely regarded as the finest player in Kansas City Royals history. He was the first player in MLB history to amass 3,000 hits, 300 home runs, 600 doubles, 100 triples, 1,500 RBIs, and 200 stolen bases. Brett is most known for the 1983 "pine tar incident." On April 17, 1983, during a game against the Oakland Athletics, Brett hit his 23rd home run of the season off of pitcher Steve McCatty. However, controversy later arose when it was discovered that McCatty had been using pine tar on his pitches. The rule at the time stated that pitchers could not use any type of foreign substance on their arms or elbows, including pine tar.
Brett's career lasted from 1973-1997, where he played 2127 games and finished with a.284 average, 33 HRs, 102 SBs, and 936 RBIs. He is the only Royal to win the MVP Award and has been named to six All-Star Games. After retirement, George Brett became a successful coach and manager, winning two World Series titles with the Colorado Rockies in 2001 and 2003. He currently serves as the batting practice pitcher for his son Brian's baseball team.

Brett spent the first 11 years of his career with the A's before being traded to the Royals in 1989. He finished with a.275 average, 1,977 hits, and 369 homers during his career. Brett was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2002.

At the age of 19, he became the youngest player in Major League history to hit for the lead off spot that day when he pinch-hit for an injured Tony Fernández. In his rookie season, Jeter led the league in hits (230) and stolen bases (68), while finishing second in batting average to San Diego's Larry Bowa (.322).
In 1997, Jeter won the AL Rookie of the Year Award after hitting.306 with 26 homers and 95 RBIs.

Brett has been a part of two World Series championship teams (1985, 1990) and has won an MVP award. He is one of only four players (Ted Williams, Carl Yastrzemski, Joe DiMaggio) to win the MVP Award at least once before being inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame.
Brett finished his stellar career with 489 home runs, 1436 RBI, and a.284 average. He still ranks third all-time in Royals history in homers (behind Hank Aaron and Sammy Sosa), RBI, and hits.
Brett was born on January 4th, 1960 in St. Louis, Missouri. He grew up in West Palm Beach, Florida and attended American Heritage School. He first played baseball for The Palm Beach Post High School Baseball Team. In 1978, he began his college career at the University of Miami, but dropped out after one season to begin his professional career.
