The game in 2009 was held in Tampa, and the game in 2010 was held in Miami. After hosting the game in Miami in 2020, Tampa will host Super Bowl LV on February 7, 2021. This year's event will be Tampa's fifth Super Bowl, with Miami hosting 11 and Jacksonville hosting one in 2005. The NFL has not announced any plans for Florida to host future Super Bowls.
Florida has been a host city for all but two of the Super Bowl games (1976 and 1998), and has a strong football tradition. The 2006 game was played at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, which at the time was being built. The stadium has since been completed and is used for other events such as spring training games and music concerts. The 2017 game was moved from Florida State University's Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee because of concerns about damage done to the field by heavy rain during the season. The game was played at Sun Life Stadium in Miami instead.

The NFL launched its championship series in 1950, when it replaced the All-America football game as the final contest of the season. The AAFC's Cleveland Browns were the first team to win the title when they beat the NFL's Rams 13-7 at Cleveland Stadium on December 31, 1948. The Browns then went on to defeat the University of Illinois Blackbirds in the 1949 Rose Bowl by a score of 21-14 to become the first post-war professional sports league champions.

The winners of these games go on to meet on Sunday, February 5th at the stadium of the higher-seeded team. The Miami region has previously hosted 10 Super Bowls, and the 11th will break a tie for the most in the country with New Orleans. (However, New Orleans will tie Miami again when it hosts Super Bowl 58 in 2024.)
Tampa was an easy pick to fill the Super Bowl 2021 site vacancy due to its previous success as a host. The Super Bowl has been held in Tampa four times, twice at the old Tampa Stadium and twice in Raymond James Stadium, home of the NFL's Buccaneers. The stadium, which can accommodate 75,000 people, staged its inaugural NFL game in 1998.
The 57th Super Bowl will take place on February 5, 2023, at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. State Farm Stadium is the Arizona Cardinals' home stadium and has previously hosted Super Bowl 42 and Super Bowl 49. While the venue of Super Bowl 59 has yet to be chosen, the host of Super Bowl 58 has.
Miami holds the all-time record with 11 Super Bowls, followed by New Orleans (10), Los Angeles (five), and Pasadena (one). The Rams and Chargers might join the Buccaneers in 2020 as the only teams to have won Super Bowls in their home stadiums. In fact, no NFL team has ever won the championship while still located at its original site.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were a charter member of the American Football League (AFL) when it started in 1960. They have never left Tampa Bay and have never moved any part of their operations out of Florida; however, they did play one season (1977) in Pennsylvania's Lincoln Financial Field before returning to Tampa Bay. The Bucs have won two AFL titles and one NFC title during their history. In 1995, after 17 seasons as an independent team, they joined the National Football Conference (NFC), where they have remained since. The franchise is owned by Tony Dungy and his family.
The 2017 NFL Season was the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' 50th season in the National Football League. It was also the first season under head coach Dirk Koetter and general manager Jason Licht. The team improved on its 12-4 record from 2016, finishing the regular season at 10-6. They faced off against the Atlanta Falcons in the Divisional Round of the playoffs, losing 26-16.
