The rule is that foosball is table soccer (US), table football (UK), and football is (other than the US|uncountable) association football: a game in which two teams fight to kick a spherical ball into the goal of the opposing team, also known as soccer in the US. However, due to the similarity of the names and games played, it is difficult to distinguish reliably between these two sports type terms. Soccer has become popular in the United States while football is dominant in England and other countries where football is the most popular sport.
