Steven George Gerrard MBE (born 30 May 1980) is an English football manager and former player who currently leads Rangers in the Scottish Premiership. Nicknamed "Gers", he is regarded as one of the greatest midfielders of all time.
He has been called "the greatest British footballer of all time" by former England international David Beckham. In April 2014, Gerrard was named the best European midfielder of the last 25 years by UEFA at the 2014 UEFA Champions League Final in Madrid. He was also named in the same position by France's Le Parisien and Italy's Gazzetta dello Sport newspapers.
Gerrard started his career as a youngster with Liverpool, making his first-team debut in 1998 at the age of 18. After five successful seasons with the Reds, during which time he won two FA Cups and one UEFA Cup, he moved to AC Milan for £35 million ($56 million). It took him only three months to become one of Europe's most expensive players when he signed for Internazionale for €80 million ($100 million).
In August 2007, Gerrard returned to Liverpool for a second stint, signing a contract until 2013. He helped the team win the 2009 UEFA Super Cup and 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

In 2007, he joined Los Angeles Galaxy where he played until 2011 when he returned to Liverpool for one final season before retiring.
After ending his playing career, Gerrard took charge of Liverpool for six months before joining the coaching staff at LA Galaxy. He is currently the manager of the Republic of Ireland national team. Gerrard has been nominated for several awards throughout his playing career including the UEFA Champions League Award, the PFA Players' Player of the Year Award, and the FWA Footballer of the Year Award. He has won all these awards.
Besides being a player, Gerrard has managed Liverpool on three occasions. He led the team to their first ever UEFA Champions League title in 2005-06 and also won the FA Cup in 2009.

Gerrard was born on 15 February 1984 in Hamilton, South Lanarkshire, Scotland. His parents are John Gerrard and Diane Graham (née Stewart). His father played football for Kilmarnock and Tranmere Rovers while his mother was a tennis player who won three medals at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal.
He has one brother, Alex, who is also a professional footballer. The two were raised by their mother after their father died when they were young. They had a rough start to life; their mother decided to move with her children to Florida so that Steven could get better coaching before eventually moving back to Scotland when he was nine.
