Gonzalez spent his final season with the Dodgers before being dealt to the Atlanta Braves the following winter. Gonzalez signed with the New York Mets after being given his release, and he participated in 54 games for them during the 2018 season. Baseball has not competed in the Olympics since 2008. In that year, the sport was featured in the Olympic Games for the first time since 1964.
Gonzalez went deep four times for the Dodgers last season. He finished with 36 homers and 99 RBIs in 2019. The Braves acquired Gonzalez in exchange for left-hander Sean Newcomb and right-hander Jason Hursh.
Gonzalez became a star when he arrived in Boston in 2007. That summer, then-Red Sox president Larry Lucchino made the controversial decision to trade away future Hall of Famer Manny Ramirez, hoping to bring in some younger players and build around newcomer Gonzalez. Over the next eight years, Gonzalez would go on to become one of the best hitters in baseball. In 2007, he led the league in hits (230) and earned runs batted in (85).
In 2014, after eight seasons with the Red Sox, Gonzalez was traded to the Dodgers in a three-team deal that also involved the Chicago Cubs. He ended up playing two more seasons in Los Angeles before being released this past January. In between, he spent some time on the disabled list due to knee surgery in 2012 and a hernia operation in 2016.
Gonzalez has been in the organization since July 2, 2012, when he signed as a minor league free agency out of Veracruz, Mexico. He was signed during the same trip that the Dodgers scouted and signed Yasiel Puig and Julio Urias. Gonzalez pitched in eight games (five starts) for the Quakes, going 2-1 with a 1.65 ERA. He held opponents to a.182 batting average against him.
He made his major league debut on August 11, 2012. In this game, he went one inning, giving up two runs (one earned) on four hits. He walked one batter and struck out one.
Gonzalez was born on January 4, 1984 in Los Mochis, Guerrero. He stands 6'0" tall and weighs 180 pounds. The Dodgers selected him in the sixth round of the 2002 MLB Draft.
Before joining the Dodgers, Gonzalez spent three seasons (2010-2012) playing in the Mexican League where he compiled a 31-26 record and 3.38 ERA over 77 appearances (71 starts). He also played in Italy and Germany during those years.
In 2009, Gonzalez led the Mexican League with 211 innings pitched and was second with 26 wins. That year, he had a 3.15 ERA and 816 strikeouts over 710 innings pitched.
Gonzalez began his professional career with the Tigres del Licey in 2001.
"The only reason I haven't retired yet." Gonzalez will be 39 years old in May. During his 15-year big league career, the first baseman was a standout for the Los Angeles Dodgers, San Diego Padres, and Boston Red Sox. He last appeared in a major league game for the New York Mets in 2018.
Gonzalez announced his retirement on November 20, 2018. He had been playing in Mexico since then. The Mexican League issued a statement saying that it "regrets" that Gonzalez has decided to continue playing after announcing his retirement.
Gonzalez hit.275 with 26 home runs and 92 RBIs in 443 games during his career. He won two Silver Slugger awards and one Gold Glove award at first base.
After retiring as a player, Gonzalez joined MLB Network as an analyst.
Mexican Tautybe/Victor Gonzalez Victor Aaron Gonzalez (born November 16, 1995) is a Mexican Major League Baseball pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers (MLB). In 2020, he made his MLB debut. He previously played in MLB with the San Diego Padres.
He was drafted by the Padres third overall in the 2015 MLB draft. In 2019, he was named to the All-Star Game as an injury replacement for the National League.
Gonzalez grew up in Baja California Sur and attended American High School in San Diego. As a high schooler, he stood at 6 feet 4 inches (1.93 m) and weighed 215 pounds (98 kg).
After graduating from American High, he went to University of Arizona on a baseball scholarship. While attending college, he worked as a security guard to pay for his tuition. After one season at University of Arizona, he dropped out to pursue a career in baseball. The Padres selected him with the third overall pick in the 2015 MLB draft. He signed with the team shortly after being drafted.
During his time at University of Arizona, he learned Spanish as a second language. His parents are Mexican immigrants who came to the United States when they were young people. His father, Victor Sr., worked as a roofer while his mother took care of their home.
