00 following his first season with the Oakland Raiders, since it was a play on his surname (aught-oh). The offensive tackle was noted for his leadership, passion, and tenacity, and he helped the Raiders become an anchor. He died in 1999 at the age of 36.
Uniform # 10 is led by two of the finest quarterbacks in school history, as well as another who wasn't bad and a dynamic force at linebacker. The Buckeyes have had nine players wear uniform number 10 during its home football games.
Number 10 has been worn by two Heisman Trophy winners (Paul "Bear" Bryant, Archie Griffin) and one National Football League MVP (Jim Brown). The last player to don the number was Mike Adams, who died in a car accident in 1984 at age 26.

It's hardly surprising that you can't think of a single NFL player that wore the number 00. The 0 and 00 jersey numbers were banned by the NFL in 1973, but not before Otto established his own reputation. The Wisconsin native was a three-time All-Pro pick and three-time Pro Bowl selection.
This sparked some debate until I showed the team organizer that Cliff Johnson had worn "00" (thank you, Baseball-Almanac!!!) and Brandon Watson, an outfielder on the Nationals' spring roster, was wearing the same number. This entire program made me wonder which players wore 0 or 00 as their uniform numbers.
Tom Glavine shone for the Atlanta Braves and New York Mets while wearing number 47 throughout his entire 22-year career.
Warren Moon is the one example that readily comes to me, and Uni Watch always felt it looked odd. In today's NFL, zero and double-zero are not allowed for any position. However, 00 was previously worn by Oilers flanker Ken Burrough and Raiders center Jim Otto.
Burrough played from 1986 to 1997 and started all but two games during his eight seasons with the team. He finished with 170 catches for 2,410 yards and 22 touchdowns.
Otto played from 1960 to 1969 in a defensive role for the Browns, Steelers, and Raiders. He was also a member of the New York Giants in 1970 and 1971. Otto started 93 out of 104 games he played in and had 951 tackles and 7.5 sacks during his career.
Shirt number ten The No. 10 shirt is traditionally worn by the team's playmaker or star attacking midfielder. It is a number that should not be taken lightly, and it is one of the jersey numbers that a player must acquire.
James Alder is an American football analyst who blogs for The New York Times and participates on radio broadcasts. Every NFL football player wears a number on his or her uniform. It's exclusive to his squad; no one else may use or wear it.
