She stayed active in the sport after retiring from competitive play in 2004. Notably, Hamm became a co-owner of the Los Angeles Football Club of Major League Soccer in 2014 (together with her husband, retired baseball star Nomar Garciaparra, and a number of others); the team began play in 2018. She also is an ambassador for The Mia Hamm Foundation, which provides support to children's hospitals.
