Gator Bowl The Gator Bowl is an annual college football bowl game hosted by Gator Bowl Sports in Jacksonville, Florida. It has been hosted continuously since 1946, making it the sixth-oldest collegiate bowl and the first to be nationally broadcast. The game features teams from the Southeastern Conference (SEC) and Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). It is usually held on New Year's Day.
The Gator Bowl is one of four major bowls in the state of Florida. The others are the Fiesta Bowl in Phoenix, Arizona; the Peach Bowl in Atlanta; and the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans. The Gator Bowl is the second-largest revenue generator for both schools involved. Each school receives $750,000 with additional money coming from television rights fees.
The Gator Bowl is a member of the College Football Playoff Network, which includes the Rose Bowl Game, the Sugar Bowl, the Peach Bowl, and the Fiesta Bowl. The Gator Bowl is also part of the larger SEC vs. ACC rivalry that includes the Clemson Tigers vs. South Carolina Gamecocks. The matchup is a popular event with fans of both schools and has been referred to as the "Holy War" or "Swamp Game".
