A team has two choices after scoring a touchdown: Kick the ball through the goalposts: A successful kick through the goalposts wins the team one point. After a touchdown, attempt a two-point conversion: The team scores two points if it successfully reaches the end zone on a throw or a run. If it fails, there is a chance to re-try the two-point conversion later in the quarter.
The choice of whether to go for one point or try for a two-point conversion is called taking a knee. On average, teams score about every 30 minutes during a game. So over the course of an hour-long football game, you might see them score around 10 times!
You might be wondering why you should care about how many times your team scores. The more times you score, the better your record will be at the end of the season. But there is more to winning games than just scoring lots of points!
You need to keep your opponents off the field too! You do this by giving them third-down chances. If they fail, they get another shot. If they still fail, they'll use up their final chance before the end of the half. In short, you want to score as many times as possible throughout the game. Then, at the end of the game, you compare notes and see who got the most points!

Say it aloud: "Pause." When a team gains control of the football, it may score points in a variety of methods. Touchdowns, extra points, two-point conversions, field goals, and safeties are all ways for a team's score to rise.
The first method is a touchdown. This occurs when the ball is advanced into the end zone without losing possession. If a player catches the ball inside the 1 yard line, he is allowed to keep the ball and run any distance beyond that. Otherwise, the play is dead after 1 yard, and another member of the team must advance the ball.
An example of a touchdown is as follows. The quarterback throws the ball to a receiver in the end zone. Since there is no one between the passer and the goal line, this is considered a legal play.
However, just because it's legal doesn't mean it will be called by the officials. Sometimes they don't call anything until the ball is in the end zone, so make sure you don't leave your feet before you cross the line!
After a touchdown, the opposing team must attempt a safety kick or go back out for more offense. A safety occurs if the ball is spotted outside the end zone with no players near the ball. The defense wins free kicks from their position on the field.
In a two-point conversion attempt, the side that just scored must run a play from near the opponent's goal line (5-yard line in Canada, 3-yard line in amateur America, 2-yard line in professional America) and advance the ball across the goal line as if scoring a touchdown. If successful, they have converted their two-point try.
The ball is placed at the 5-yard line on the back end of a standard football formation. Two players from each team will be positioned behind their respective sides' lines with room to run if they get the ball. The remaining player from each team will be in the center of the field ready to snap the ball if necessary.
In order for the conversion to be made, all five players involved in the play must reach the end zone. If any player stops short of the goal line when attempting to score, then the try fails and game continues as normal.
The two-point conversion was invented by John Henry Johnson who was the coach of Harvard University. He felt that his team lost many games due to a lack of time to score enough points to win. So he created this new rule so that his team would have a chance to win even if they were behind by more than 10 points in the last minute of play.
One-point, two-point, and three-point shots are the most popular methods to score in basketball. A one-point shot is frequently taken when a player is fouled while shooting. The player then stands behind the free throw line, with each shot counting one point. A two-point shot is taken from within inbounds territory. It can be taken from between the center line and the free throw line or at the foul line extended. A three-point shot is worth 3 points; it can be taken from any location behind the three-point line. This category of shot is useful for scoring quickly or pulling away from a close game.
There are several ways to score in basketball. A player can take a field goal if he or she is within inbound territory or from beyond the three-point line. They can also take a free throw if they are fouled while taking a field goal attempt. A layup or slam dunk is worth 10 points; it can be taken from anywhere on the court. A three-pointer is worth 3 points; it can be taken from anywhere on the court. By understanding these different methods, you can create your own offense or follow the game plan of a coach.
