As the superstar wicketkeeper-batsman announced his retirement from all forms of international cricket on Saturday, India skipper Virat Kohli praised his first captain, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, for all the teachings. He will continue to captain the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League.
Kohli said he was retiring because of a neck injury that has been bothering him for some time now. However, it is reported that the 29-year-old will be taking a break from cricket to focus on his education and explore new opportunities.
He became India's most successful test captain when he led the team to its first series victory in Australia in 2011-12. Under his leadership, India won the Test Championship away from home for the first time in 2012-13. As a batsman, he was the top scorer in both tests and one dayers with 3,961 runs at an average of 50.97. As a captain, he had a record of 100 wins in 110 matches.
After Dhoni, who is currently coach of Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 4, retired from international cricket in 2013, Kohli took over the role of captain and led India to its first ICC World Cup title in 2015. In the same year, he also became the first player to score centuries in each innings of a Test match - against South Africa at Johannesburg.
From MS Dhoni to Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar, who are the Indian players that own private jets? Virat Kohli is the current captain of Team India, and he also captains Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL, where he is attempting to win his first title. His personal net worth is $5 million.
Kohli was born on January 4th, 1985 in New Delhi, India. He is one of the most popular cricketers in the world today, and he has won numerous awards including the "Best Cricketer in the World" by ESPNcricinfo in 2016.
He started playing cricket when he was only eight years old, and a few years later, he became one of the youngest ever cricketers to score a century. Since then, he has never looked back, and today he is considered one of the best batsmen in the world.
In 2011, he became the third fastest Indian to reach 3000 runs, and three years later, he reached this mark even faster than that - in just 70 innings! Around this time, he also became the fastest Indian to reach 100 scores, and today he is still going strong without any signs of slowing down.
India captain Virat Kohli is said to have a close relationship with his former captain MS Dhoni. The friendship between the two Indian captains has frequently been cited as the reason for the Indian team's easy transition when Dhoni stood down as captain and Kohli took over. They have also shared the dressing room during India's successful period in Test cricket, when both were present at the venue for every single match.
Kohli was born on 25 January 1986 in New Delhi. He is an Indian cricketer who plays as wicket-keeper for the Indian national team. He is the current Indian captain and he has held the position since November 2016. Prior to this, he had previously served as vice-captain of the team from March 2015 to October 2016. Before becoming an international player, Kohli played first-class cricket for Rajasthan Royals from 2004 to 2009 and Delhi Daredevils from 2009 to 2011. In 2011, he joined the Indian Army and served for three years before making a comeback to the game in 2014. He was bought by the Mumbai Indians for $1 million (Rs 5 crore) in the 2015 Indian Premier League (IPL). In April 2017, it was announced that Kohli would be retiring from all forms of cricket after the 2017 Indian Premier League season. However, in August 2017, it was reported that he might continue playing into the 2018 season.

In it, India defeated New Zealand to reclaim the top spot in Test cricket after nearly a decade. MS Dhoni quit as limited-overs captain before the England series, giving the captaincy to Virat Kohli across all forms. Before that, Virat Kohli was only responsible for India's one-day team.
Virat Kohli has always been praised for his batting skills but he got recognition when he took on the role of captain. Under him, India won the 2011 World Cup and also finished as runners-up in 2015. He also led India to their first Test match victory over Australia in Adelaide earlier this year. However, the tour was cut short due to security concerns following the Australian terrorist attack. In October 2016, India lost the two-match series 1-0.
As far as records are concerned, Virat Kohli is the most successful Indian captain with three victories out of three matches he has played. His predecessor Mahendra Singh Dhoni had done well in limited-overs games but never in Tests. MS Dhoni won the 2010 Asia Cup held in Pakistan under controversial circumstances (see below).
However, there were controversies during Mahendra Singh Dhoni's tenure as India's captain. He was accused of using illegal bowling actions during his career and was banned by the board for four years starting in 2008.
Retirement. Afridi declared his retirement from Test cricket in July 2010. He retired from ODI cricket after the 2015 ICC World Cup. He announced his retirement from T20Is and international cricket in February 2017.
He made his debut against England at Lord's Cricket Ground in April 1994. During his career he has won two man of the match awards, one in a losing cause. He also holds the record for the fastest fifty in the history of the Indian Premier League when he hit it off 37 balls back in 2008. In ODIs, he is the second highest run scorer behind Sachin Tendulkar with 3,088 runs. In Tests, he is third behind Tendulkar and Brian Lara with 17 tons. His record in both formats of the game is unlikely to be broken soon as he is already 36 years old.
After retiring from international cricket, Afridi took over as coach of Peshawar Zalmi in Pakistan's PPL (Pakistan Premier League). The team was owned by Afridi's brother Shoaib who had bought them from Imran Khan before the start of the 2011 season. However, he resigned from this position in December 2011 after a dispute with the board over financial issues.
