World Wrestling Entertainment (r) announced today that "The Heartbreak Kid," Shawn Michaels, will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame this year. Michaels is one of the greatest superstars to ever appear for WWE. The 41-year--old Michaels has been a mainstay on the company's roster since joining it in 1992. He has held multiple championships throughout his career, including the World Heavyweight Championship once.
He is also one of only three wrestlers to win the Royal Rumble match while world heavyweight champion (the others are The Rock and John Cena).
Michaels has appeared in several television movies and documentaries about the business over the years. He has also made occasional appearances with the company since stepping away from in-ring competition in 2015.
He returned at the 2016 WrestleMania 32 event by participating in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal but was eliminated by Triple H. At 51 years old, he is the oldest person to take part in the battle royal side event. The winner of the battle royal would receive a title shot at the time champion Brock Lesnar.
