"Navarro, they are the greatest of the best of the best," one talking head says near the opening of the series. The team's coach, Monica Aldama, states in the first episode, "My objective was to have the top cheer program in the country."
It is a bold statement and one that Aldama may come to regret. After all, there are only six teams competing in this season's NCAA Division II Cheerleading Championship held annually at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. And while most people would agree that Navarro is among the best, few would say it is the best.
Aldama has been putting together this squad for more than 10 years now, and she has yet to leave any stone unturned when it comes to recruiting athletes. So when the show starts, she already has a strong foundation upon which to build her squad. She gets even better players each year, which makes for some amazing footage of cheer practices featuring flying splits, double twists, and high kicks.
But beyond just having fun at their opponents' expense, Navarro strives to be perfect in everything they do. Thus, every win feels even better because you know that you could have done things better. This is also why they always seem so surprised by their successes and delighted by their accomplishments - because no one else expected them to beat anyone important.
Cheer did not make a point of mentioning that Navarro did not win the grand national champion title in 2019. It won its division, which included just Navarro and TVCC, but finished second overall, falling to grand national winners Texas Tech. However, Cheerleading Magazine did name Navarro's dance the best dance in the country.
Navarro began competing in 2010, when it hired Jeff Wilson as head coach. They have not missed the playoffs since they started competition years. In 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016, Navarro went undefeated during regular season play. In 2017, they went 12-0 before losing in the first round of the playoffs to eventual national champion Trinity Valley College (Texas). In 2018, Navarro again went 12-0 during the regular season before losing in the quarterfinals to another national champion, West Virginia University. In 2019, Navarro went 11-1 during the regular season before losing in the semifinals to Florida State University. The only loss this year was to Texas Tech in the finals of the grand national championship.
As for this year's team, it is also ranked number one in the nation.
Navarro College is an independent co-ed cheerleading program based in Corsicana, Texas. The school has over 3,000 students and offers bachelor's degrees in administrative services management.

The major duty of school cheerleaders is to assist other sports teams by leading the audience at games and pep rallies and fostering school spirit in general. Cheerleaders may have a role in promoting products, services, and causes through cheers and dance routines.
Other duties include entertaining fans with gymnastic displays and encouraging students to attend games and events. Some squads also take on volunteer roles with local charities and community organizations. In some cases, squad members may receive financial compensation for their efforts.
School cheerleading has become very popular over the past few years. There are usually between 15 and 20 girls on a squad with four players on the field at a time. A typical game lasts about 30 minutes.
Cheerleading programs often start in middle school and continue through college. Many elite cheerleaders go on to become professionals after graduating from high school. Others choose to continue their education beyond cheerleading. For example, some cheerleaders study physical therapy or medical professions while others stay in the entertainment industry.
To be accepted into a high school cheerleading squad, you need to be able to do several backflips and cartwheels, as well as climb up stairs. Most schools require that you be at least 5'7" to join a squad.
The USASF/IASF Worlds is the most prestigious tournament in the world for all-star athletes at the top levels. Cheer Athletics has won 26 USASF World Championships, 29 silvers, and 16 bronzes. This makes us the world champion cheer team.
Cheer is a sport that uses dance and gymnastics skills to perform during short breaks in an athletic event. The USASF/IASF Worlds is an annual international competition where national cheer squads are selected to compete against each other based on their age group eligibility. Teams from different countries can have up to six members on them, three males and three females. There is no limit to how many times you can take part in this event so long as you do not reach the maximum number of participants on the day of the tournament.
The first Worlds was held in 1984 in Los Angeles, California with only four teams participating. Since then, the number of teams has increased every year to the current level of more than 100. Countries such as Canada, Mexico, Germany, Brazil, Colombia, Japan, France, Russia, India, China, Australia, and Italy have cheer programs that train annually to come in second place at the Worlds. Only the United States has been able to win every single year since its creation!
A panel of three to five judges will grade you on things like spirit, eye contact, sharpness, and ability. After everyone has tried out, the results will be announced or posted. Cheerleading tryouts in high school may be one of the most exciting periods in a girl's life. Judges look for girls who have the skills needed for cheerleading and who get along with their fellow squad members.
There are several ways to become a cheerleader. You can be nominated by your coach, be recommended by an existing cheerleader, or enter a contest. Most schools hold open calls where any student can show up and try out for a spot on the team. This is usually done near the beginning of the year when coaches need to fill out their rosters for competitions.
After tryouts, coaches will often invite some of the girls to join their team as "walk-ons." These girls are welcome on the squad but don't have a guaranteed spot next season. The remaining spots will be offered to other girls who did not make the cut at first tryout. Sometimes these spots will go to students who were not listed among the nominees for cheerleading positions. For example, if there are six spots open and four girls have been nominated by their coaches, the last girl added to the roster will have a chance to earn a spot.

In conclusion, the cheer is for the basketball team at USC. No one else attends games; therefore, there is no need to cheer for anyone else. Just cheer for the Trojans!
