Michael Jeffrey Jordan (born February 17, 1963), better known by his initials MJ, is a businessman and former professional basketball player from the United States. He is the major owner and chairman of the NBA's Charlotte Hornets as well as NASCAR Cup Series team 23XI Racing.
He is also one of the greatest players in NBA history, having retired with 3,964 points during his career. The Chicago Bulls' #23 has been retired throughout all of sports in recognition of Jordan's contribution to basketball.
After playing for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he set several scoring records, the Bulls selected him with the third overall pick in the 1984 NBA draft. Over the next nine seasons, he helped the Bulls win six championships. In 1993, he joined the Washington Wizards, with whom he won another title in 1997.
In November 2001, Jordan returned to the Bulls, this time as a member of their management team. He was re-acquired by the team in 2009, when they purchased his remaining contract years.
Since then, he has become one of the most successful business executives in America, owning multiple brands including Nike, Gatorade, and JumpStart.
